The Air Force said Friday it would punish 70 airmen involved in the accidental, cross-country flight of a nuclear-armed B-52 bomber following an investigation that found widespread disregard for the rules on handling such munitions.
I get that the air-force has to punish someone for this, but 70 seems excessive. There were numerous points of failure but the further from the nuclear storage we go in the time line the less the airmen in question can be expected to be really concerned about hydrogen-bombs lashed to the side of a B-52.
Still -- I'm glad to see the air force taking some action. Hopefully this will lead to a stiffening of US nuclear safeguards.
