Arnold Schwarzenegger says marijuana is not a drug, 'it's a leaf'

advertisement

The governor of California says marijuana is not a drug, a British magazine reported Monday.

Arnold Schwarzenegger told the British edition of GQ magazine that he had not taken drugs. The former bodybuilder and Hollywood star has acknowledged using marijuana in the 1970s and was shown smoking a joint in the 1977 documentary "Pumping Iron."

"That is not a drug. It's a leaf," Schwarzenegger told GQ.

"My drug was pumping iron, trust me," he added.

This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Again -- Arnold's answer here demonstrates the increasing normalization of marijuana in American culture. We've gone from Bill "I smoked but didn't inhale" to Arnold "It's not a drug; it's a leaf"

That certainly is one take on it; the other being that Arnold is not entirely familiar with the English language.

He seems pretty fluent to me -- accented, but I've never seen him badly mangle simplistic english before.

So marijuana isn't a plant now? When did it cease from being so?

Cannabis, also known as marijuana[1] or ganja,[2] is a psychoactive product of the plant Cannabis sativa L. subsp. indica (= C. indica Lam.). The herbal form of the drug consists of dried mature flowers and subtending leaves of pistillate ("female") plants. The resinous form, known as hashish,[3] consists primarily of glandular trichomes collected from the same plant material.

A dried flowered bud of the Cannabis sativa plant.

The major biologically active chemical compound in cannabis is ?9-tetrahydrocannabinol (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol), commonly referred to as THC.

Humans have been consuming cannabis since prehistory,[4] although in the 20th century

Don't believe the hype. Now cigarettes... that's a drug.

Among people, not politicians. There is really no serious discussion of legalization or even decriminalization among any candidate. California doesn't really count.

Actually, cigarettes are a wrapping of treated tobacco leaves (if we're going to be as pedantic as the governor. Nicotine, now that's a drug. Caffine is a drug. THC, now that's a drug.

I agree with the Terminator, as usual. Weed is not a drug. It DOES have health side-effects, but they are not serious enough to make it illegal. They could TRY to tax it, which would help the economy in several ways, but that would be hard to do, since it grows so easily (so i've heard).
I personally believe that the only reason it is illegal is so that the Man has one more reason to throw free-thinking people in jail. I have a friend in jail for 10 years because on 3 occasions he got caught with one joint max. I have an Uncle who did 5 years for blowing his wife's face off with a shotgun in his front yard. Explain that to your kids.

Arnold should know, he terminated enough marijuana to know the difference between drugs and a leaf. Leaves don't get you high, "drugs do" or in Arnold's case iron. This is why Arnold should stop smoking leaves, it's destroying his brain cells. It's OK Arnold we know you smoked a couple joints back in the day and if calling drugs leaf makes you one with iron, OK Governor. I guess it's easier to legalize leaves then it is drugs.

We use it here as a herb, nice in a good pork stew. Never knew you could smoke it what a waste of good food(sic)
In fact its a life sentence use to be death, for being in possession of the odd leaf or two. So I have not touch the stuff since I lived in Holland 8 years or so a go.

Well if you list all the Rx drugs, their risks and the money that is spent to push them, even ones that are so deadly there are later recalls and law suits and weigh it against the naturally derrived, cheap to grow weed you see why it's a crime to grow it, much of the lovely drug revenue for Monsanto/Pfiser/Searle and Dupont and Bayer and Astra Zeneca and mother of all drugoperations Merck will face competition from self sufficient users. Criminal to cut profit.

Nausea, vomiting, sore throat, anal slippage, oily discharge, rectal dysfunction, the plague, homosexuality, sleep driving, sleep eating, sleep wife beating, irritable bowels, stuttering, gout, yuck-mouth, camel toe, mild to chronic stroke, boils, heart disease, bird-flu, restless leg syndrome, restless mouth syndrome, uncontrollable urges to urinate, chronic death and in some cases the medicine actually works.
So if your dry eyes are out of control, ask your Doctor how Merck can kill you today!"

Or of course you could go with an "all-natural" treatment, like Laetrile. Active ingredient: cyanide.
