STYLES make fights — or so goes the boxing cliché. In 2008, they make presidential campaigns, too.
This is especially true for the two remaining Democrats, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. Reporters covering the candidates have already resorted to traditional analysis of style — fashion choices, manner of speaking, even the way they laugh. Yet, according to design experts, the candidates have left a clear blueprint of their personal style — perhaps even a window into their souls — through the Web sites they have created to raise money, recruit volunteers and generally meet-and-greet online.
On one thing, the experts seem to agree. The differences between hillaryclinton.com and barackobama.com can be summed up this way: Barack Obama is a Mac, and Hillary Clinton is a PC.
More like Obama is AIX 5.4 running on a P6 55A server ... ooo yeeaaaa....might as well throw this one in since we getting all techy about it..
Terrible comparison.
My first reaction is that if Obama is a Mac, he can take every side of every position yet still claim he's "cool". A terrible thing to be in politics.
What do the Mac and Hillary clinton have in common?
They're both Eunichs!
What? Eunuchs? *confused*
Mac is based on a UNIX kernel. UNIX, when pronounced, is a homonym of "eunuchs."
and eunuchs are men whove been.... well... snipped, but not in accordance with the modern methods... its an external snipping
I'm a 60 year old Mac user for at least 12 years. Worked PCs at my career site and felt they were clunky. I don't know much about detail (i.e., how they work; how they are set up), but I love my MAC. It would seem true that the general impression MACs generate, it IS smooth, stylish, and very friendly to work. The PCs, even after working them for a decade, seemed boxy, clunky, and cluttered with junk that always left me with a feeling of frustration.
So far as Obama is concerned, he clearly is inspirational, and stylish, smooth, laid back, eloquent ... but short on substance. Hillary Clinton, Monday night, was able to field question after question after question seamlessly, moving from the broad context into prioritizing and enumerating her plans for change. Barack, sorry folks, is the Democrat who most often reminds me of Giuliani in one key area: Barack Obama says it is so, so it is so. His legislative record is shallow. His presentation is based on touchy feeling themes and words, but when he is pinned down, and clearly forced to elucidate on his record ... he stumbles and mumbles.
It may come as a surprise to some, but Obama supporters should remember this: Barack Obama has said he will bomb Pakistani targets if he believes bin Laden is there, in Pakistan, regardless of whether the Pakistanis give permission to bomb or not. I fought in Vietnam as a combat infantry vet. Am 70% disabled. I've been in combat and was seriously wounded, had malaria and PTSD. There was a draft in that war.
My step sons were totally ignorant (they are 26 and 22) that a Draft could be revived. And, believe me, if Obama makes the critical mistake of bombing Pakistan without Pakistani permission, you, the men and women under thirty, will be drafted. With one war in Afghanistan going less than well; with Bush now saying he's holding on to the troops in Iraq until the end of the year; and, with a terrible war as a prospect with Pakistan ... there would be no alternative but to revive a Draft.
Obama's style, and smooth and eloquent rhetoric ... is really pretty much just that.
While I am a Mac LOVER, I prefer hearing Hilary list her goals and priorities. This is the key difference in the two candidates. She is absolutely correct in saying that she will be ready to govern from day One. Barack Obama, who says his job will be to inspire, will find that there are only so many eloquent speeches he can give. He has to perform. As a performer, he would encounter a hostile congress, because the peace and love aspects of our great Democrat Party, won't be mirrored by the GOP side of the aisle.
Obama is not so good at detail. And this goes to the heart of the MLK statement HIllary made: a good read of history of the sixties shows that without JFK and LBJ, MLK's dream would have died during the night. Only someone who has sufficient vision, and, a very precise manner of getting their vision transformed into reality, will bring about the change Obama talks about.
If voting for a woman doesn't represent change, gee, I don't know what would.
Never had a woman. An African-American man is still a man.
I believe that we should give a woman a chance. They represent 51% of our population, and while Hillary is a very intelligent, skillful politician, she does have a woman's sensibilities honed in a man's world. I think she may be a PC, but in this case, I'll take that chance ... in fact, I DID vote for her today. And proud of it.
The Clinton's and the Bushes are good friends. You made a terrible, terrible mistake today.
The Clinton's and the Bushes are good friends.
Friends as in inviting each other over for BBQ, or friends as in not tearing each others' eyes out?
I agree very bad analogy. How about Oboma is a Chevy and Clinton a Ford? Coors vs. Bud, Coke vs. Pepsi...
With the above, it is pretty much the same product and does the same thing. I think Obama is actually different, and I hope I don't feel duped in a few years.
Don't forget we had a Ford a few years ago....
Maybe he's a smooth-talking charlatan (though he doesn't set off my own BS detectors), but, as the saying goes: when you're in the basement, there's nowhere to go but up (or an even deeper sub-basement).
Here's the thing. I don't see that any of these politicians can really make much of a difference at all. They aren't much more free than the rest of us.
So, it comes down to rhetoric. To whose rhetoric do you want to spend the next four years listening? I like Obama's the best (from what I've heard of it). That said, I still voted for Senator Clinton in the primaries. Of course, when I get the "I Voted" sticker, I feel like putting it on my forehead, as if it said "chump".
Mac > PC
everyone knows it, and those that choose not to acknowledge it are simply in denial!
:P *taunts all you PC users out there*
kidding aside, am I mistaken in the assumption that this is actually about political candidates instead of computers? i mean.... enough with the flame wars and silly statements like mine above!
