Congratulations to George W. Bush and the Republican Party for another historic milestone set by the Great Leader:
At 39 months in the doghouse, George W. Bush has surpassed Harry Truman's record as the postwar president to linger longest without majority public approval.
Truman is regarded with much esteem today and, while his apologists might like to think otherwise, it seems unlikely that Bush will meet with such historical acclaim.
In the unlikely even that Iraq turns around, that might not be the case... but as is, it seems that President George W. Bush will enjoy an ignominious place in the history books.
Before reading the article, I'll comment about Truman. McCarthy's accusations were directed at his administration. I love this Truman note from the Venona archives.
Another similarities with Truman, demonstrating the effect, both had unpopular wars. I would guess Johnson had similar numbers.
The South Korean effort is now seen positively. I think the U.N. resolution helped a lot there. MacArthur tried to parlay that into a war on China, the fool. If he woulda just stayed away from the border... from wikipedia: "Chinese foreign minister Zhou Enlai issued warnings via India's foreign minister, Krishna Menon, that an advance to the Yalu would force China into the war. When questioned about this threat by President Truman and Secretary of State Dean Acheson, MacArthur dismissed it completely."
Meanwhile the GOPers were screaming 'who lost china'? Thinking we could prop up Chiang Kai Sheck on the mainland. What a dream.
There seems to be a lesson for the MacArthur-Bush types. I'm sure it's in Clausewitz somewhere, I know it's in Machiavelli : Don't bite off more than you can chew.
Yes, he must be the most despised President in history. We only need to look at what that man has done in 7 years. Torture, the War in Iraq. squandered all our treasure, took away most of our liberties, and tried to dismantle the few sane ecological laws we have on the books in this Country, appointed Judges which have set us back for at least another sixty years. I'll leave some additional thoughts on what George Bush has done to another person to write.
His rating specifically on handling the war in Iraq is equally poor — 33 percent approve, 65 percent disapprove — and on the economy it's even worse, with a record 70 percent disapproval.
I don't understand how he can maintain such high approval numbers.
They are bitter?
So what is new, why have the American try to get him out of office that right most American enjoy being walk on by their own government. No one in this country want to stand up for what is right, they do not care if their children have a future.
What about all those signing statements that we don't even know the effect of yet? He definitely gets my vote.
