Yellow Dress And Accessories: $300,000. Watching Your Party Call Your Husband's Opponent an "Elitist" In Style: Priceless

advertisement

One of the persistent memes in the Republican line of attack against Barack Obama is the notion that he is an elitist, whereas the G.O.P. represent real working Americans like Levi "F-in' Redneck" Johnston.

It caught our attention, then, when First Lady Laura Bush and would-be First Lady Cindy McCain took the stage Tuesday night wearing some rather fancy designer clothes. So we asked our fashion department to price out their outfits.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Ok, so everything save for the ear-rings came in at just the cost of a new car. It's the giant rocks dangling from her ears that would finance a nice lake-front home down in my neck of the woods.

I could buy a custom built Aston-Martin DBS for the cost of thier outfits. Classy.

I would definitely rather have a custom built Aston Martin DBS than either of their outfits.

It's not rocket science that the Bushes were going back to go to sleep @ 10:00 p.m. and the McCain going to a party and not time for change.

Why are the sour grapes? At least Cindy buys her clothes with her own money.

And a little something for MO - Talk to Carolina Herrera or Oscar de la Renta. Few classy gowns w/a little change go a long way.

There's sour grapes because this is the party trying to paint Barack Obama as elitist and the nominee's wife for said party is wearing 300,000 dollar dresses and accessories. You don't see hypocrisy?

No. If Cindy wears a dress from WalMart then.....is hypocrisy. We don't want to have another Evita Peron.

Determined, I know English isn't your first language so I'm going to assume you're translating "hypocrisy" to mean something other than what it actually means.

Hypocrisy (or being a hypocrite) is the act of pretending to oppose a belief or behaviour while holding the same beliefs or behaviors at the same time.

So, for example, when McCain attacks Obama for being an "elitist" but his wife wears $300,000 outfits that would be pretending to oppose a belief or behavior while holding the same beliefs or behaviors at the same time

See?
