It's Safe to Colonize The Moon Now, Japan Has Demonstrated That It's Possible To Make Beer In Space

advertisement

The extra-terrestrial beverage was the result of a five-month mission during which barley was grown for the first time in a Russian laboratory on board the International Space Station (ISS).

Sapporo Breweries, one of Japan's major breweries, went on to use the crop of barley grown in space to create 100 litres of a 5.5 per cent proof beer aptly named Space Barley.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Mmmmmm.... Space Beer! My read of the article is that they didn't actually do the fermentation in space, so it's important that NASA nail down this final technology hurdle with all speed, but I think this demonstrates that mankind is ready to reach for the stars... and have a pint.

The Daily Telegraph is pretty reliable Dolce, so I'd presume it true unless I see something more compelling that rebuts it.

We're getting there recently Mexican scientists discovered how to create diamonds (film) from tequila. (No joke)

Now all we need is to figure how to get canabis to produce oxygen, oh wait.
