Alaska State Trooper Says Officials Delayed Arrest In Sherry Johnston Drug Case Due To Sarah Palin's Candidacy

advertisement

The mother of Bristol Palin's boyfriend sent text messages discussing drug transactions less than a month after the young woman's mother, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, was nominated as the Republican vice presidential candidate, according to court documents filed this week.

An affidavit from an Alaska state trooper, filed Monday, states that Sherry L. Johnston referred in her messages to two police informants to "coffee" as a code for the drug OxyContin.

This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

So I guess that if Americans were stupid enough to have elected McCain/Palin then she'd never have been arrested for fear of embarrassing Palin?

No, R. Donald Snyder.

Sherry L. Johnston would have been arrested after the elections if McCain/Palin won.  There is nothing for Sarah Palin to be embarrassed about.  Sarah is not related to this woman.

Studiusbagus,

You can't choose your daughter's boyfriend much less your daughter's BF's mother but you can choose your pastor.  I just hope that pastor is not same raving lunatic who regularly spews out venom about his own country unlike, say, Rev. Wright.

You can also choose whose house you want your candidacy for the Illinois State Senate launched from.  I just hope that the home owner is not somebody who bombed police stations in the not too distant past unlike, say, Bill Ayers.

You can also choose who the co-buyer of your house will be.  Hopefully, this co-buyer will not be convicted of fraud and bribery unlike, say, Tony Rezko.

John you are so right - if you're not home and you are more interested in your career and how you look... like Palin... then you don't know who your daughter is sleeping with, if she is or isn't, who she's hanging around with, and you don't take time to expose her to the right people.

The article states the troopers chose to wait because of all the Secret Service who were around. What does that have to do with it? Apparently the SS had been around her son, the daughter's boyfriend. Still isn't clear. I think it was due to Ms. Palin, but I could be wrong.

If we all come back from conspiracy land for a moment, the delay may have been to gather enough evidence to build a case, or to use as leverage to get her supplier.

There are a number of reasons other than the typical right-wing conspiracy the left is so willing to accept.  Family members who are in law inforcement have repeatidly told me that many of thier arrests for first time offenders are let go.  Building up evidence over a period have a better chance of conviction and jail time.

      Except, CC, the trooper stated:

The trooper's affidavit indicates that Sarah Palin's candidacy factored into the investigation, with state officials delaying execution of a search warrant until this month, when Johnston was "no longer under the protection or surveillance of the Secret Service."

Now, whether that was due to stepping carefully to avoid embarrasing Palin, or due to the police not wanting to clash with the Secret Service, the article doesn't say.

      Rainkiss,

But what does that have to do with Palin?  There is no mention of her or her handlers trying to suppress that info until after the election.  That decision was made by the State Troopers themselves.  Why they decided to...who knows, may they where looking to relieve the "financial stress" or "getting something back" for thier families if McCain/Palin won the election.

Had anyone even considered that this woman might still be dealing/using drugs if Palin wasn't nominated?  She'd be just another average shmo just like you and I and the public and authorities alike would care less about her.

Now, whether that was due to stepping carefully to avoid embarrasing Palin, or due to the police not wanting to clash with the Secret Service, the article doesn't say.

To clarify, it's entirely possible the police made the decision to hold off all on their own until after the election to avoid a potential scene with the Secret Service.  The article doesn't go into enough detail to tell.

The more we learn about the 2008 campaign the more we see just how far the GOP has really fallen. Palin is, in a very tangible sense, the very embodiment of decades of anti-intellectual cronyism gone horribly wrong. If the GOP is to recover and is to make a viable contribution to the direction and health of the nation, it's got to put this period of its history well and truly behind it.

Oh, I'm not a sore winner, at all.  Quite cheerful about the election results, actually, thank you for your concern.

I'm just here being entertained how, just because a woman has a loose connection with Sarah Palin, her attempts to illegally acquire and resell controlled prescription medication is described as "used a commonly prescribed legal drug."

FYI, CCdesign, if you hadn't noticed, there's a button above the box in which you type your replies.  It's got an "ABC" over a check mark, that's a spell check.  Might want to hit ti before you post.  (Scandle is correctly spelled "scandal.")  It won't catch everything though, it would have missed the "I" you typed for "It," "whats" for "What's", and "Loose" for "Lose," so you'll still want to proofread.

Agreed!  And if you think your getting a rise out of me from that, your wrong. You got the wrong guy for that.  GeeW is yours just as much as the BHO is.  They are all the same with two agendas...pay attention.  Self interest and special interest.

                    thomas jefferson,

she was using it without a prescription and apparently buying and selling it.....which is considered worse.....laws have been strenthen to combat the dealers......it's not that she was doing this that is so scandalous, rather, police waited to arrest her so as to keep from possibly influencing the outcome of the election.....and since Palin went off on this pallin around business, many are throwing it back in her face as well they should.....it makes no more sense to say she is pallin around a drug dealer than to say Obama was pallin around with a terrorist.....I'm sure Palin has been to the drug dealers house and may have even had her over but does that mean she is pallin around with them?  Guilt by association is a very dangerous thing to play with.....it's now coming back to haunt Palin.

Do you have proof that Sarah has been to Sherry's house?  Or Sherry has been to the Palin house?  Or even proof that Sarah knew that Sherry was dealing drugs?

Guilt by association is a very dangerous thing to play with.....

Sitting in the pews of a hate-filled pastor for 20 years is not just an "association", don't you think?

Having a convicted felon be a co-buyer of your house is not just an "association", don't you think?

                      Xerxes -

Rezko was not convicted until June of this year, and he wasn't indicted until 2006.  Obama bought his house in 2005.  So technically, yes that would just be an 'association' as Rezko was not a convicted felon at that time.

And as for Rev Wright... well, yes his sermons did sound hateful, but he served honorably in the military as a Marine and as a medic with the Navy.  So as far as I'm concerned... even though we may disagree with him, he's certainly earned the right to say whatever he wants.  And if you want to bring up church associations, can anyone say... 'McCain-Hagee' or 'Reagan-Falwell', or how about Sarah Palin and her witchcraft church?

Proof there's no need for any-the woman is about to be her in-law they do associate with each other because of their kids.Another scandal held back because of the campaign trail. She's part of the Palins lives along with her son and what ever she bounced off it's bouncing back to her.Problem is she can't cut the woman off and she may get special privileges because of relations to Palin.

Alaska is one of the top 3 corrupted states in the union and I'm sure the people of Alaska are fed up-well no they are and been fed up with it.They're finally starting to speak up and out against the political crap and bulliness they been dealing with for years.

Me, I'm loving the fact that there are people, on different threads, blasting Obama for sitting in a pew for twenty years listening to Wright, AND for not going to a Christmas service this year.  Hysterical.

This should just go to show everyone that the War on Drugs is nothing but pure political bulls***.  If it had been marijuana, or if she had been any other color besides white, they would have either locked her away or shot her dead in a heartbeat.  But no, in this case it was ok to let it slide for 3 months while she was dealing Oxycontin.

Clearly druuuuhhhgs were not that big of a danger to society this time around, it was more important to get somebody elected.

I'm still stuck on anti-intellectual cronyism.

Guess you could say that Sarah pals around with criminals.  OxyContin is called Hillbilly Heroin.  Wasilla, the meth capitol of Alaska.  What a group.

One grandma is the Gov the other a convicted drug dealer.

                                      What a wonderfuly family tree.

Perhaps at the end of her term(s) Gov. Palin will pardon her own daughter's mother in law

I think Mrs. Johnson was charged federally which leaves Governor Palin out. It would have to be W before he leaves office. He could sneak it in when he presumptively pardons Cheney, Rove and the rest of his administration.

Well, he might give a full pardon to Libby..but I doubt it.

Not sure, but I suspect someone has to actually be convicted before they can be pardoned.  Don't think they can squeeze a trial in quite this fast.

Nope, they sure don't. Of course a pardon is basically an admission of guilt at that point so it's politically radioactive but then again if you're leaving office already....

It is 2009...would all of you take a chill pill and try to be more charitable in spirit and words? My goodness. Take a look at yourself and how you sound when you tear other people down. It only reflects on you, not them. The only thing any of us can do is live our lives in as charitable and forgiving a manner possible. Only you can control what comes out of your mouth for all the world to hear and read. Maturity is measured by how you live your own life, not how you judge others.

I think you're judging me to be uncharitable and calling me immature and judgmental.
