South Carolina GOP votes to censure Sanford

advertisement

After nearly four hours of deliberation and multiple rounds of balloting, the South Carolina Republican Party voted Monday night to censure Mark Sanford for traveling overseas to visit his mistress -- but stopped short of calling on the governor to resign.

This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Censure... yes... because that's what Sanford was calling for when the shoe was on the other foot and it was Clinton who was cheating on his spouse.

So what do you need to do to get fired in the republican party?

Well, if Newt is any indication, leaving your wife while she's basically on her death bed with cancer so you can go be with a younger woman isn't enough... so Sanford's probably ok in that respect.

Of course, if you're a Democrat you'd better be the damn Pope.

I believe that's called having "family values".

"family values".

Yeah, Newt determined that his dying wife had little value, and it was time to re-invest in a more lucrative venture.

But don't let Newt catch you doing the same......Sinner!

In the Republican party...apparently you need to get caught with your --ck in a baby...say, TWICE...to merit removal from office.

The party of family values...do as I say...not who I do.

Now now, according to some here (including Dems), Sanford wasn't there on Father's Day because his mean old wife kicked him out of the house and poor Sanford had nowhere to go but Argentina (talk about making excuses for someone).

You know what I find most interesting (from the article)?

There also were party members who opposed taking any action against the governor.

Let's have some names. I would like to know who in South Carolina Republican circles thinks that Sanford's exotic AWOL experience -- his dereliction of duty -- is not deserving of some form of chastisement?

Sanford is such an arrogant a$$hole that he will only view the censure as penance and, it's over. They should run his butt out of the state and back to Argentina.

I think his wife is publicly being "forgiving" only for political reasons. She has more sense than to actually fall for his false remorse. She most likely enjoys the gov. perks and is a politician herself.

..Censure? That's all? No comments or suggestions for him to step down when he and Ensign have been singing for Clinton to resign?

No responsibility...shame. Ask the people of South Carolina what they want to do with this bastard.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, it doesn't matter if the guy had an affair. That's a personal problem that should be resolved at home.

The issue should have always been the fact that he left office for a week with no one in charge. If someone with a job that was supposed to be responsible did something like that, normally, they would be canned by their employer.

That's what I thought about Clinton's affair, but the republicans wouldn't let it go. Then in 2000 the republican party ran on family values and said they wanted to bring integrity back to the oval office, yea right! Integrity = Lying and sending our sons and daughters overseas to get killed in an unjust war is okay, but a BJ is out of the question?

I'm all for affairs to be dealt with strictly between the couple, but the re-pugs continuously hold the other political party to a different standard. To me, that's not integrity at all, practice what you preach!

When it comes to most politicians (both sides) there is a line in the movie "Hunt for the Red October" that rings in my ears (which probably makes me a cynic but its been proved to me):

"I'm a politician which means that if I'm not kissing babies I'm stealing their lollipops."

This means I'm forced to gauge them by their actions (past and present) and not what they are toutting.
