Giant and Mysterious Blob of Goo Floating Off Alaska Coast

advertisement

Something big and strange is floating through the Chukchi Sea between Wainwright and Barrow.

What's this?
Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

It's probably Sarah Palin's political career.

It could be the remnants of those substances broken down into their petroleum bases, cause if you look at it it sure looks petroleum-y from the way its separating & pearling as it floats. Plus that would answer the half "digested" bird carcass.

I mean, I know they say it ISN'T oil or petroleum but it sure looks like it in the pic.

OK! Seriously! I have looked at that picture over & over. I realize it is brain matter that has been flowing from Palin's (g-u-l-p) ears since September, 2008. This is probably why she has been acting so weird and mentally challenged during her interviews, babbling speeches & press conferences. I would want to apologize to her about all the negative things I've said about her; but I prefer to wait until the test results come in, just in case she really is an inept, screwy, imbecile and it has nothing to do with the goo. So, I am withholding all of my comments until yesterday!

This has nothing to do with the GOP or Sarah Palin, while they may exibit the same repulsive qualities to some, they are both still living for the time being.

My guess is that this a long dead biomass recently freed from an icy tomb. Not one creature but a collection of dead plants and animals that were trapped in some backwater then encased in ice.

The ice pack above the arctic circle has been reduced significantly in recent years, so much so that it is now getting easier for ships to navigate a Northwest Passage

Now that the ice is receding (and this is not a reference to global warming, rather, just an observation of known events) who knows what may be released to ride the ocean currents?

A Jurassic Blob? a dare I mention that oil IS Fossilized bio-mass.. my guess is that is was released not from frozen ice, but from a passing ship, probable a fish factory ship.. and the waste is production waste from skining and deboning thousands of fish, and well, now and then seagulls get caught in the nets as they are unloading in the ship..would explain everything... just a few points fo ponder

I wouldn't go as far to say it's from millions of years ago, maybe tens or hundreds...a thousand? However, waste from a factory ship is a plausible source too.
