The First Ten Lies from Palin's Memoir "Going Rogue"

advertisement

Excerpts from Sarah Palin's Going Rogue have been released by several news agencies and other sources who have received advanced copies. Here are the first ten lies from Palin's memoirs:

What's this?
Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

3. Going Rogue features Palin's obsession with Katie Couric and characterizes the CBS anchor as "badgering." Palin refused to prep for the Couric interview because she was more concerned about her popularity in Alaska than about what was best for the campaign. Was it really badgering to ask what books or periodicals Palin read? Palin further claims that Couric suffered from low self-esteem. In fact, according to those close to Palin, it's the former governor who suffers from low self-esteem and frequently projects that onto other women.

My personal favorite and in my mind the one that tanked her !! She so failed at answering simple questions. The week these aired, it was like a new comedy show every night.

5. Palin contends to have been saddled with legal bills of more than $500,000 resulting from what she calls "frivolous" ethics complaints filed against her. The lion's share of those bills resulted from the ethics complaint she filed against herself in a legal maneuver to sidestep the Troopergate charges being brought against her by the bipartisan Alaska Legislative Council.

This is my favorite. She sued herself and then started whining about how much it was costing her. If she would only think first....

my-2-cents

I think McCain shot himself in the foot with selecting her.

I think he did so on purpose. So far having Democrats in control of the White House and Congress is working out rather well for the Pubs. People are waking up to what some of us knew from the git-go: the stimulus is a flop. The pay czar who's probably drawing down $150,000 annually can't find his ass without a roadmap.

In my mind I have dismissed Sarah Palin along with the likes of, oh.... Lets say... Peewee Herman. Legends in their own minds, and in it for the money. Whether you agree with the political positions of Palin and other conservatives or not, and whether you oppose their ideological perspectives or not...

You are sorely shortchanging yourselves by sneering and denigrating rather that closely analyzing why they have such a massive following across the American social spectrum

Look at the staggering failures by other cable news and opinion shows compared to those on FOX. Look at the top 10 best selling books consistently for years

Look at the ratings for liberal versus conservative talk shows. They aren't even close

So you believe progressives, liberals, and the anti everything crowd are the only ones who truly see the light?

Well, making yourself capable of debating facts rather than simply publishing sneers and insults carries a lot more weight with reasonable adults

What is it that the vast majority see in Palin that you can't comprehend?

More important, ask yourself why you can't comprehend anything other than, "They're all stooopid rednecks"

...not a winning or persuasive argument

I said very early on that McCain had shot himself in the foot when selecting her. He clearly didn't do his research before making his decision. Despite what many right-wingers believe, this woman is not very intelligent on many levels. For starters, she should have been able to have said, without hesitation, "Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Time, as well as many newspapers published within the state and nationally". How hard could that have been? I'm sure there are many others but ducking the question made it seem that she read "nothing" and knew nothing as well. Even if she didn't read everything she could have, it would have been a better showing to think of something. That was a pathetic blunder on her part.

But speaking as someone who is "somewhat of a feminist", I saw her getting pregnant at 44 as extremely irresponsible, especially since she already had 4 children. She got pregnant BEFORE she got married if you do some research and do the math. Apparently, she hasn't learned much about birth control in the 20-something years she's been married. Her daughter was made a scape-goat because her Mom was stupid enough to think she wasn't having sex or thought that if it wasn't talked about, that it would not happen. Sure, Levi Johnston should keep his mouth shut, but Sarah was her own worst enemy in all of this. There's not a snowball's chance that she'll make the ticket for 2012.

Good for you Killfile..... another episode of just a pretty face really believing that she has what it takes to be President or even Vice-president!

I believe she has spirit, I believe she will say anything to the crowd she is facing, I believe she is not versed about most anything, I believe she is pretty, and that is about all. Strong willed, knows how to play to the cameras, knows how to play to the crowd, but knows very little.....

She looks like she would be good in the bedroom, but that is for Tod to say! Nice figure, and knows how to sell the looks obviously...

It would be scary to think that the population of America would ever risk having her as President... the lights are on, but no one is there!

Her crowd will stand behind her, being one of them is how they feel so good about her... but why would any of us want a common person to accept the responsibility and the task of so great a duty?? Again scary! People, don't ever think of electing the person you would most likely have a beer with, we did it once with Bush(recovering alcoholic and good for him), we dare not take that risk ever again.... for America's sake!

If Palin is the best the Pubs can offer, then that's very sad for them. Oh, how I remember that cutesy way she talked in the VP debate. I remember thinking that Biden came off as the obviously more intelligent, educated candidate. You are sorely shortchanging yourselves by sneering and denigrating rather that closely analyzing why they have such a massive following across the American social spectrum

20% of Americans identifying themselves as Republicans (and falling) does not qualify as "massive," unless you mean "massive failure." Remember it was during the 2006 midterms that Rove unleased his "GOP Forever and Ever" master plan to give his party permanent control of Washington. Less than three years in: how's that working out for ya?

Look at the staggering failures by other cable news and opinion shows compared to those on FOX. Look at the top 10 best selling books consistently for years

I don't know where you're getting your information, but while Fox tops the cable news rankings, they consistently get pasted by every network news broadcast except PBS. And MSNBC is closing fast on Fox's lead. CNN is tanking, that's true, but I believe that's because it tried to become "Fox Lite." There are only so many kool-aid drinking cult followers to go around.

Look at the ratings for liberal versus conservative talk shows. They aren't even close

Olbermann is the only liberal talk show that has been on for much over a year (Maddow is, I believe, just beginning her second year). Hannity and O'Reilly have been on Fox for 13 years; their radio audiences help feed their ratings (and granted, Air America, where Maddow has been for a few years, has never had anywhere near the ratings that the conservatives have had). Given all that, Olbermann and Maddow routinely beat Fox in several key demographics, and their overall numbers are steadily closing.

What is it that the vast majority see in Palin that you can't comprehend?

Judging by the polls and the response to her book, etc, the vast majority thinks Palin is a grasping, narcissistic, self-aggrandizing, whining, lying idiot.

More important, ask yourself why you can't comprehend anything other than, "They're all stooopid rednecks"...not a winning or persuasive argument

Considering no one made that argument in here (at least as far down as I've read), you're setting up a straw man and screaming at it. And the gratuitous dig at your opponents' intelligence is a dead giveaway of where you're coming from.

But please, enjoy your teabagging rallies and your sense of victimization. The rest of us will continue cleaning up the tremendous mess your last cult leaders left us.

smellitcoming 1.28

Good descriptive handle. It illustrates how hallucination can manifest in all the senses, visual, auditory, and sensory.

The only factual evidence of smell ( odor ) is the long lasting odor from the last administration. The damage was so severe it will be a few election cycles before the odor is only a memory. The stain, I'm afraid, is permanent.

Till then, conservatives will be on the outside looking in, as they have been since Nov. 8th., 2008. Put a coat on....it's getting cold outside.

such a massive following across the American social spectrum

'Massive' is a laughable term in this context. Fox has high ratings in part because there are dedicated spoon-fed rightwingers who will watch no other channel... and because there are a large number of free-thinkers who watch Fox programming in order to fact-check its lies and distortions.

Look at the staggering failures by other cable news and opinion shows compared to those on FOX.

'Staggering failures'? That's a stretch. Sure, Fox has the ratings, but I've already covered the primary reasons.

Look at the top 10 best selling books consistently for years

So, rightwing talkers churn out books consistantly... and rightwing bulk buyers scoop them up to use as 'gifts' for subscribers (i.e., Newsmax.com)... and those same books are quick to end up in the bargain bins at your local 99-cent store. Real impressive.

Look at the ratings for liberal versus conservative talk shows. They aren't even close

Again... asked and answered. See above.

What is it that the vast majority see in Palin that you can't comprehend?

So... you're suggesting that there's some kind of 'vast majority' who support former Gov. Palin to the point that they would vote for her? Really? That 'vast majority' sure didn't rise to the challenge last November, huh?

Of course, Nixon believed in the 'Silent Majority'... so I guess rightwingers can have their dreams, too.

One of the sad points of our society is that we have what is called a "herd" mentality, and the so called socially religious conservatives make up the vast herd that contributes to the ratings that come from over sensualized stories, or books which emanate from the wings.

People want to be entertained, and Fox News, and many of the programs that one finds on Fox cable programs do just that... Married with Children, helped to bring Fox to the limelight by depicting in an overstated way, the dysfunctional, yet nuclear family, fret with problems ever striving to overcome middle class life. The entertainment value is still more than apparent in the constant re-runs of the popular show.

In the same venue as Married with Children is many of the programs on Fox News, and with a delicate twist, the Hosts also twist the stories to suit their needs in bringing sensationalism, half truths, and inquisitions upon those not supporting their political agenda's. Fox has found a loyal following of those who will always question any Democratic ideal, anyone who professes to be pro-choice, anyone who questions the right of an individual to have an automatic weapon, anyone who might have more progressive ideas on religion, anyone who might suggest a change to the fiefdoms established through the decades of ownership, management and alleged intellectual superiority of those with a lighter skin color, yet manifesting those same views from an ill-advised, somewhat illiterate, or biased group that minimizes or prevents participation by anyone, except for those with the same ideology.

The same could be said of the books published by those who seek to feed those yearning for confirmation of their own biased thoughts, with innuendo's and alleged conspiracies against this great nation we call America.

The passion exhibited in the so called newscasts, the reaction by those here on the Vine, the reaction by those who have nothing to do but march, holding their varied signs condemning thoughts other than theirs, and their willingness as a herd to march without knowledge or subject background is more and more visible. This is the same crowd that does not wish to be educated about a subject, the old don't confuse me with the facts group! They have their point of view and no amount of discussion will change their minds, their attitudes, or the illogical points they follow. They have been told, and they believe, that anything other than their ideas are wrong, and only theirs is the way to the freedoms they hold so dear.... Ignorance is something that will always be hard to conquer when those with ears refuse to listen or seek other sources other than the loyal following of Fox News.

Palin panders to those who strive to be like her, those who want to hear the falsehoods from her mouth, those who would rather an ordinary person just like themselves would run this country in the way they seem fit. She touches on the subjects she knows will bring the crowd she is engaging, to the passions they represent. She is smart, wily, and sorely uneducated both in basic subjects such as economics and in world affairs, yet in that garb, she addresses those who also just don't get it and just don't want our Nation to continue down a path none of them understands or gives a hoot about other than their own personal needs. Palin is a master at addressing those crowds, at stating falsehoods, half truths or twisting facts to suit her needs.... In that she is dangerous and should never be trivialized or dismissed! We have elected a "none too educated leader" to the presidency before by the popularity of the person pandering to the masses, beware of this person and the political machine that may be behind her! We have for all too long been offered the world, lower taxes, etc, but in reality all the middle class has gotten has been the "shaft".

SnotRag Dave - Fox's "Massive' following" is a laughable term in this context.

Several rating services confirm FOX to be the most watched in every meaningful time slot and demographic

Sure, Fox has the ratings, but I've already covered the primary reasons.

So they have the ratings and the viewers, which is the source of advertising revenue, and you said what?

Fox has high ratings in part because there are dedicated spoon-fed rightwingers who will watch no other channel...

Even if your laughable contention were true, is it also your contention that advertisers are ignorant and should actually avoid this huge audience?

You also contend that a 'large number' of those watching FOX aren't really watching, merely observing and alerting their handlers if they think they have discovered a slip or misstatement that can be exploited?

because there are a large number of free-thinkers who watch Fox programming in order to fact-check its lies and distortions.

So those watchers aren't really watching, and those watchers who aren't really watching are paying even closer attention that those who actually are watching?

That's your argument? LOL !

So... you're suggesting that there's some kind of 'vast majority' who support former Gov. Palin to the point that they would vote for her?

Who draws the crowds? Who has around the clock television coverage even though she is a supposed to be an unimportant and unelectable backwoods hick?

Who is the subject of hundreds of NewsVine articles, most of which insist she is a nobody?

Really? That 'vast majority' sure didn't rise to the challenge last November, huh?

The presidential candidate selected by the Republicans was and is a liberal.

Conservatives by the millions refused to vote for him, knowing full well an even more liberal Obama would be elected

Unfortunately, it is necessary for the elite Republican leadership to wander in the wilderness for their stupidity and betrayal of the values and concerns of the majority of American citizens

It was in fact, Palin's addition to the ticket and the rationalization by many that maybe McCain would die and she succeed to the presidency, that kept his loss from being a monumental historical embarassment

The likelihood is that one has friends that most likely agree with them or their philosophy.... and it is a good point to what the Republicans have and it is a sorry one too! I admire any organization which so to speak, sticks to their guns and follows a prescribed course, and in many of those organizations which the right wing cries about, is the educators which is lambasted most of the time for being too liberal. But without lesson plans and prescribed coursework, the learning process for so many would be in vain.

The adoration that Sarah Palin has has shown itself in many ways, the males who think she is a doll and a babe and go to see what she has to say, especially since she does not act like the liberal feminists of the Democratic Party. The wives and mothers who somehow see themselves, not necessarily educated, but strong willed and willing to speak up about matters whether religious or social and from their narrow point of view represents their feelings. One would remember that this Nation is over 300 million in population and the continuing support for the ultra conservative Republicans still amount to approximately 30 percent, that equates out to be about 90 million people of which Fox gets close to 30 to 35 million views daily.... not a small token of mouths to feed, clothe, or shelter...

There are some like Chad.cullum above who have stated that he does not watch main-stream media as it sucks by his thoughts, and in his own words he has told us his position, he is one of those who neither wants to be educated, nor in fact wants to hear another side to anything except what he wishes to hear. These are the ones who ad hear to passions, and views from only their perspective. We had some of the old military people at our church, they did not like the openness of our church accepting gays and women in the Ministry, so they left, that issue continues to bother a large number of individuals who cannot accept what they refuse to think about or learn.

Palin is like a magnet, she attracts those like herself, some libertarians, some right wing conservatives who believe that the government should be minimal at best, not looking into their business(whether it is right or wrong) taking their money for taxes(no matter how many programs they benefit from in the programs they are in) and she attracts those with strong beliefs about the Christian nature of our government and although they will stand for the separation of Church and State, constantly want God represented in govt actions. The sorry part is not for the truth that is represented in many of the icons being presented, or the nature of being honest, or not sinning against their fellow man or woman, but only to represent their own belief's as taken out of context of a bible used for their personal agenda's.

Sarah panders to all with beefs against our government, that is why she is an excellent politician! She has no problem in taking credit for something not hers, no problem in stating a falsehood, for just in the statement, she gains those who believe and carry even a stronger attitude in hearing it from her.... After all for the "birthers" she just knows Obama is not a naturalized or real citizen and the cover-up by the powers, the Democratic Party and the main-steam media is apparent, what a bunch of crap... followed up by stories well put together to bring an unsuspecting naive individual down a path to belief....

Hey, my son is law is going to one of her book signings, just to get the stupid signiture on her book to give as a joke to someone, as he feels it will be the ultimate joke. The sad part is how she is unwilling to accept responsibility for her own acitons, places blame on anyone and everyone, twists the truth to suit her needs, takes credit for items in which she had miminal involvement, and the list goes on......

But she is a force, and she has a following, which will most likely stay with her as her ship goes down... some say she is like Ronald Reagan, but he was educated, and the state of California as a governor is far greater a task than that of Alaska, for it California was a separate nation at the time, it would have been the seventy largest in economic activity.... Both are intelligent, but she is not educated, and hopefully will continue to self destruct in her blatant mixing of the facts, and thankfully those organizations who will fact check and call her out on her slips and mi's-statements!

Also, please check your stats, the vast majority of the American People do not want, nor trust her to be president, and that is why as a Vice Presidential candidate, most were willing to possibly vote for McCain, but not take the chance because of his age, that she was a last breath away from the Presidency.... those who believe she added more to the ticket then what she took away are delusional at best!

Steve

There isn't adoration for Sarah Palin.

She is the alternative for the politicians in the Congress. I don't have any doubt that Huckabee is a good man but is not the candidate that I would vote.

a) Sara Palin has a boy with the Down Syndrome. I have many friends that their kids or grandkids suffer from the same. She understands.

b) Sara Palin has a daughter that rather to have the baby than to go in the dark and have an abortion for the sake of the "reputation".

I have many friends that are in her shoes. Therefore she knows how hard is to go through that situation. No matter what it's said, we mothers and grandmothers wish that our families have a good marriage, a good home for the kids and not raising those babies like single mothers. Hence, there is a point more in favor for Mrs. Palin.

About the book. Sarah is getting about $1,000,000.00. Mrs. Clinton got $8,000,000.00 for hers. Sarah wrote about her daughter, Mrs. Clinton wrote about Ms. Monica.

c) Senator McCain enrolled Mrs. Palin for his adventure, Mrs. Palin did not request the job that resulted that many of us decided that she represents the middle class of hardworking people and immigrants.

d) The interview with Charlie = If Mrs. Palin answered the trappy question of the Bush Doctrine for sure that I really would call a disaster.

e) Katie Couric = The editing was beneficial for the ideology of CBS. How can I forget the envy that Sarah Palin brought to Andrea Mitchell and Katie? KC was not a friendly or fair interviewer and from there Sarah Palin got our attention because of the low quality questions..

You think that's why girls and women have abortions? For the sake of their "reputation"? What "reputation"? "Reputation" hardly has anything to do with abortion in this day and age.

Determined: Please do not use her son with Downs Syndrome as a model.... the cruxifer at my coming wedding is a child born with Downs Syndrome, her mother graduated with me in high school, and her devotion to her child is my model... a Downs syndrome child needs all the attention a mother can give, the needs the child has, the support the mother needs to give is a task that few men would ever want in their lives...

My friend gave up her successful occupation to take care of her child, has gone to and been part of the active Down Syndrom campaign for her son... She has doen everything possible to give him a normal life, and even taken him to Germany for treatments not available here in the US. She held him or his father held him, not a sibling, not a nanny.

Because of her devotion both time and spirit, her son has a job, lives on his own with some minimal help, and is going to give one of the speeches at our wedding... He is an exception, but so was his mother, and she continues to be.... so please do not use Sarah as a model, she is sorely missing many aspects in my mind.

You are one of those who does admire her, just be honest... and in that admiration you join the group who adores her, the character she is, the principles she stands for, or at least presumably stands for.....

As to being the Christian mother who stood up for her daughter so that the baby could be born, and not suffer the consequences of the reputation of herself.... what a joke... as the previous writer has said, or asked, is that why you think so many have abortions??? Again, ill-informed individuals....

My goodness, what about the Christian principles about not having sex before marriage, or at least being smart enough to take precautions... just having sex to have sex, that good feeling.... and the child being born suffering a lifetime of agony, because of a stupid mistake.... take the morning after pill, take the pill, at least until one is able to care, to assume the responsibility of taking care of another human being.... children are not just an act of nature, we humans are supposed to be above that..... the act of making love, the result that can come from the act, there is a reason for the marriage vows.... all too many have children because, not because they want them, and are ready to care and take responsibility for them...

Her interviews, guess one will see what they want to see, I have stated that in many of my threads on the Vine, it is a matter of perspective, mine is different from yours, and thank God there are more of me....

Palin is someone pandering to wealth, the spotlight on her, the mis-informed part of the crowd that denies to others what they already have, see the world with rose colored glasses, and want to put this nation back in ages rather than develop our country to be the leader, the responsible nation we once were.

The idea that one network, other than cable, over another is trying to show bias, or address a single point of view is ludicrous at best.... I used to watch Fox, because I have always wanted a well rounded view.... but lately it is tainted, so biased, so willing to sell themselves, to pander, to twist, to spin, that with the conscious I have, I cannot bring myself to watch.... I do continue to watch main-stream, and other cable channels as my clients need a well rounded adviser to them.... I have quite a few clients who are in fact staunch Republicans, and many have been dismayed by the past some eight years of the previous administration.

you mention editing but do nothing about a comment on how well Fox edits comments, takes comments out of context, uses views from another source or suggests without facts instances of duplicity they feel the need to display....

Hogwash.... I am a father, my children are in fact old enough to have had children, they have not, for they understand the huge responsibility that goes with a child, and yes one of mine is a daughter with great morals and a great job.... recently married I might add, but a University grad who dated her husband for some 5 years before marriage. I walked my children in the night, fed them, bathed them, changed them, took them to the day care when older, took them to school, never missed an event, and have been there for them, the only thing I could not do was give birth to them, and feed them from my breasts... other than that, my love for them, my joy is limitless.

Steve,

That is by far the best, respectful, and thoughtful post that reflects what many of us really think about Palin in our hearts.

We just don't see the perfect Madonna that she SAYS she is. We do not see her actions backing up her words....and when her truth is debunked and her followers defend her ---well, that brings us back to the divide on Palin.

Palin is not and has never been one of us. I say this as a woman raised on a farm who can hunt and fish, was raised in a church, dropped out of school, got a GED, married and had 2 children (raised and took care of them personally), never took any welfare or public assistance of any kind, never made over $25,000 a year, and have read and educated myself all of my adult life.

While Palin may or may not be qualified to be a governor, her lack of knowledge on the national stage, let alone the world stage concerns all of us. I have seen her inflame and divide and speak alot of nonsense when the situation is serious and deserves clear, thought out answers.

And I think that it requires more experience than just managing to produce offspring and self promote their parental skills to be the POTUS or VP.

Things like a balanced temper, ability to think and act under pressure, a broad knowledge of current issues on the national and international stage as well as a good understanding of the history behind the issues and the ability to speak clearly and rationally about those issues.

Things like the ability to think beyond one's personal beliefs and ideology and encompass a worldview, and possess an understanding that the POTUS represents the United States of America, not the United States of World Interference and Governmental Domination.

Promotes things like the fact that all American citizens are TRUE Americans - no matter where they live, or the color or their skin, or their religion (or lack thereof) and seeks to unite us, make us all feel welcome in our own country - not send us back to the dark days of minorities and women being treated as second class citizens.

Great post McCowgirl...... Yes, all of those things would be nice in any candidate rather than the single minded, simple minded and political machine controlled individuals we seem to get from the Right....

It is sad to see, those who defend the actions of our Prior President, continue to promote as his greatest single achievement as keeping another attack from our soil, with the seemingly innocent assumption that terrorism never occurred before 9/11. And, in the time line of events, if only he had paid attention to those advisers of Clinton who raised the alert, if only he had not used the mantra of ABC, anything but Clinton and not felt he had to redo all from the start, if only!

We now have an articulate, well educated, intelligent man, and yes to the chagrin of all too many still, in what should be an age of enlightenment, a man of color. But as you said, perhaps one day that in itself will not matter, as we all know it should not matter. His task, perhaps the most formidable of any sitting president other than Lincoln and possibly Roosevelt, is one of a magnitude that will test his mettle and ability to the highest degree, all any of us as citizens of this great country can or should do is wish him all the success he can muster.

Yes, we are the Americans, the United States of America, and we should act like it, for not just our own benefit, but for all both within and without and in the world in which we live!

I will agree she did a very fine job of expressing those opinions that the majority on this thread and the country dis-agree with, but she did it without any spin, which is more than I could say of the next few items of yours.

The bitterness and never ending haughty dismissal of Palin as a nothing, a nobody, a backwoods hick, an opportunist and a phony are all telling

When one is in shock about the figure head of what is considered the opposition party out of power, the as you call it, never ending (I am sure we would like it to end, but like a bad apple, one can ruin the barrel, and many of us hold the fiscal responsibilities of the party you profess to support as a good thing) And, I do not feel that most of us dismiss in a haughty way, the image that Sarah projects among her adoring crowd. She is by no means a nobody, and not a backwoods hick, un-educated you betcha as she would say, an opportunist, no doubt, but that is what has made America what it is, for without the opportunist, the entrepenuers, we would never have grown into the Industrial Complex we have become. A phoney, not sure for she is real.... but he spin out of her mouth, the half - truths, the made up statements which have been fact-checked to be false, those bother me and I imagine others too... If she was portraying a point of view, which most of us could stand behind, most of us would be behind her. And like a good Republican, just saying it is true, does not make it true... look at the latest poll, her figures are dismal for her chances to be President, but even a blind pig finds an acorn now and then, and that is scary!

Who wastes that much time on an unelectable blip on the screen?

As I said, she has that look, that brings in the masses, the herd that will follow the lemming leader right off the cliff, and that is scary. So, as they say, being fore warned is being fore armed... and only the ignorant do not take notice of what she is saying and doing around the country. Too much is at stake!

The very fact that they are in constant angst and turmoil over Palin tells the real story

Ever vigilant, that is my motto, much like the solider I used to be.... All too often the Democrats have taken too many things for granted and all of us have suffered the consequences.

Middle America and its values are not supposed to matter, and certainly not to triumph !

This is a great one, as if to say she represents Middle America, the working stiffs, get a life! The Republicans are the land owners, the CEOs, the Harvard, Yale and upper crust of our society.... The Democrats have been and continue to be the blue collar workers, Middle America to the nth degree, and Sarah by no means is about the Middle Class, she is a libertarian, leaning more to the Republican Right, and the fear of her being the President more than show in the public poll with so many stating they would definitely not vote for her....

The elite masters of the Liberal Plantation hear the drums of approaching liberation, and fear the emancipation of their charges

My God man, get a life, masters of what, liberal plantations, what a joke, the poor slobs trying to raise a family, make a decent wage, that is the Party in opposition, and perhaps you are getting a bit passionate with the descriptive adjective's which in actuality belong to the Republicans and their domination over the past three decades??

Imagine if now they are forced to respect the rights and freedoms of all people and not just their segregated special classes of voting livestock?

Ok, I see an agenda here, a bias, someone with passion certainly, but someone with a cross to bear against a possible grievance of sometime... or you have just had some course which stirred your emotions... Once again get a life, the Democrats as unorganized at times as they are, are in fact so welcoming of any and all and that is the reason for the dis-organization.... trying to be all to everyone does not work, that is why the Republican party is one like a fraternity of individuals who agree to think alike, and act alike for the benefit of the Party. The shame is the current percent who have taken the Grand old Party to the brink of the wings, causing so many to leave and become independents....

How will Palin appear in the history books a generation from now?

She'll be a footnote beneath pages and pages of discussion about how the Democrats in power @!$%#ed up over and over and over as the economy slid inexorably into the abyss. When the frailest of Americans begin to die due to lack of food, shelter, and adequate health care, Sarah Palin will be the farthest from the minds of those they left behind.

4. Palin asserts that there was a "jaded aura" around McCain's political advisors once she entered the campaign. In fact, McCain's aides bent over backwards to protect Palin and to try to get her up to speed on international affairs. In addition to not knowing whether or not Africa was a continent, according to sources in the McCain campaign, Palin also didn't understand the difference between England and Great Britain. And much, much more.

Sisyphus would admire the tenacity of McCain's advisers.

when the frail are homeless and dying, then the government needs to step in and help

Really now? They tried that in D.C., but most of the money went to crooks. Residents with AIDS continue to suffer after the government decided to "step in and help". One can only wonder how many have died from lack of care since the government tossed tens of millions of dollars into the hands of thieves.

How about this? We put a line on Form 1040 for you who want the feds to step in and help. You can give them as much as you want. I'll write in $0 and donate my financial aid to private-sector charities that have a proven track record of providing relief and making the most of their funds with service from volunteers.

Naw. We deserve an intelligent, ethical, well-educated, cultured, respectable first female president who does not quit public office to write a book. She is out there. Maybe we'll need to wait on Chelsie Clinton, or another young woman to mature, but she is out there.

Stating the obvious, Palin seeks celebrity and the money that goes with it. To that end, she is using the fascination of American's celebrity obsessed culture with her. That is all she wants - definitely not to ever run for public office again!

Hillary graduated from Wesley College a fairly prestigious institution. She then earned a law degree from Yale before doing a stint as a Congressional aid. She was the first female chair of the Legal Services Corporation in 1978. Named the first female partner at Rose Law Firm in 1979 [and] was twice listed as one of the 100 most influential lawyers in America. All that before running for and winning a Senate seat which she filled with some distinction.

Palin, in contrast, staggered through five colleges before managing to squeak out a diploma prior to a career on the local news. Then she won a series of elections in small towns of no particular note before inexplicably winning and then resigning the governorship of Alaska. Her major qualification for any political position appears to be that she has nice legs and feeds white America the red-meat politics that have become the hallmark of the lunatic-fringe of the GOP.

Yea... clearly Hillary's wooden press conference performance makes Palin the obvious choice for President.

She was also the one that advocated that if Richard Nixon went to trial after being impeached that he should be denied legal counsel, something that she and Eric Holder are now advocating terrorists who have admitted guilt in 9/11 be supplied with.

According to her boss at the time she was basically fired for incompetence.

Being the first female at a backwater law office in Little Rock Arkansas is an accomplishment, when her husband is the Attorney general and later governor of the state? That is like putting Todd Palin on the oil commission of Alaska (oh wait he was already working and did not need a hand out from a croney of the governor).

Taking a look at how far the legal profession has fallen (Congress is full of lawyers and what is that getting us?), I am not impressed with the fact that she is influential in a sea of incompetence.

that old white guy George Washington...was a secessionist and a traitor from the backwoods of Virginia which had no electricity or indoor plumbing...was a war monger and wore a wig and shot animals...How bright or competent could he have been?

1. He was at least the head of a rebel army that managed to defeat the super-power of his day. That might go to show he had SOME leadership skills.

2. Electricity as a usable resource did not exist in the 18th century. Neither did widespread, effective indoor plumbing. The technology was not there so that's kind of a moot point.

3. Wigs were considered highly fashionable in the 18th century. Very few portraits from that era have their subject displaying their natural hair. Kind of hard to imagine these days I know, but then again at one point in our history codpieces and bustles were both hip.

4. Until the development of the modern day agricultural industry and the advent of the"grocery store" anyone who wanted to eat meat had to slaughter their own animals. Since meat has been a pretty important part of the human diet throughout history, everybody did so until we had our local grocery store.

How are any of those points relevant when talking about someone who couldn't hack a full term in a high ranking government position and instead goes after media attention to feed her ego?

Bright enough not to speak without a teleprompter and not to spend the nation into the deepest debt it's ever been in. WaPo reported today that the budget deficit topped $176 billion to set a dubious new record. People calling Sarah Palin dumb would do well to note that at least she had experience working with a budget. In that narrow area she's light years ahead of the president and Congress.

Just think never having to worry that we'd have to claiming bankruptcy, selling our home, or face foreclosure because of medical bills.

Our country is going to crap quickly, other industrial countries seem to know the value of a health and cared for society. America certainly isn't the wonderful and amazing country it used to be.

The "regulation" talking point. The question you should be asking is who's regulating the regulators. In other words, enacting laws is futile if there's no enforcement or when the regulators turn a blind eye for a little do-re-mi in return. This article gives a good insight into the details of how Goldman is getting away with (corporate) murder.

I know and you know she is but many people out there really relate to her "salt of the earth" stuff. Her life is a soap opera and many people thrive on high drama - gives them an adrenalin rush. Poor Levi Johnson - thinks he is enlightening the public about her, but is doing nothing but broadening her base with people that can relate to problems with a son in law. After the Oprah interview, they now think she is taking the high road. Levi would do well to keep his mouth shut and let her reveal her true self. You would think we would have more profound matters to discuss with the US and world situation the way it is. Oh well, I guess a little diversion into trivia is good for the mind.

Palin is absolutely the worst thing to happen to smart women since the underground beginnings of women's lib. She is the antithesis of what 21st century American women stand for and it makes me absolutely sick to see women who are barefooted and pregnant in the kitchen supporting her dumb-ass.

A few weeks before Election Day I figured the RNC did it to tank the election with plausible deniability. Some of us Americans understood the implications of the stock market's plunge in 2008, that the economy was about to begin a long, tedious, and painful slide into the abyss. Think 1930s. Elephants have good memories, and they don't forget the beating President Hoover took for being in the right place at the wrong time. What could be better than to have the Democrats in control of the White House and Congress during a wholesale economic collapse and depression? Not all that much to do besides kick back and watch the action.

rickace,

I actually can see some sense in your comment due to the fact that the GOP probably did not want control of the mess that they had largely helped create, nor a clue on how to fix it.

They continue to say NO to anything that even might be a step in the right direction and offer no viable alternatives.

I think that they knew that this is going do be a long, slow, painful process to get the economy stable, and a lot of people are going to be pissed no matter who is in office.

The GOP themselves would have had to put policies into effect that would have made their base unhappy. Now, they can sit on the sidelines and naysay, point fingers, and stir crap, and turn up the rhetoric to hopefully gain power after necessary changes have been implemented that they were "against".

Of course, then again the GOP could have chosen to continue to make policy benefitting only the elite and tanked the whole country....we would have all been pissed, but what would it have mattered?

MoCowgirl:

I too can derive some sense in Rick's post. It would be pretty typical for the Repubs to sit back and let Dem's take all the sh!t for pushing policies that the GOP would most likely support if it didn't go against the Platform handbook Rove had written.

But then aren't we sort of facing a problem where we have 1 of the 2 viable political parties keeping up appearances by supporting a platform that the majority of America is actually against? What good does it do to be a party of opposites when only a small minority agrees with you??

Thanks for commenting everyone, btw!!!

IMO it doesn't. But the rhetoric can change - a few well-placed words here and there can change some people's perception.

If I only had a dollar for everytime that someone told me "Well, yes, THAT is what I said, but THIS is what I meant" in order to deflect the conversation and deny all accountability for their words and actions.

Gosh, I sure hope so. The direction the right has taken us in for a decade has most obviously not been the way to go. Its the very people that are suffering from the policies of the Republican ideology that are up in arms to defend it! I am sincerely at a loss for the logic table on this one.

I meant it will only be the rhetoric that will change to appeal to a larger voter base--- not the actual views or actions of the GOP.

You must be joking. No matter what you think of Hillary's politics, you must concede that she is a credible spokesman for this country.

Joking? Sadly, No. The people who can allow themselves even a momentary consideration of Sarah Palin in the presidency of this country are capable of believing and thinking anything no matter how absurd and preposterous.

Im sure you are right when it comes to changing rhetoric as opposed to changing views in regards to the GOP especially come 2012. I guess its just weird to me to watch half of the country follow a party that has an increasingly irrelevant worldview.

When I'm joking you'll know it.

No matter what you think of Hillary's politics, you must concede that she is a credible spokesman for this country.

Really now? Perhaps you don't remember this, but she carpetbagged her way into a Senate seat in my home state of New York for the self-serving purpose of advancing her political career. Rarely if ever did I hear from her or Schumer, and when I wrote letters to them, their staffers, when they did answer at all, replied with a generic form letter.

Hillary does what's good for Hillary. I don't trust her as far as I can throw my car.

800 lb. gorilla

while i understand that hillary does not speak russian, she is still a very educated and intelligent woman. the same can not be said for palin.

Bernie Madoff had a degree in poli sci. Dr. Mengele held two degrees in medicine from German universities. No doubt they were educated and intelligent as well. Your point?

MoCowgirl-1193719

I actually can see some sense in your comment due to the fact that the GOP probably did not want control of the mess that they had largely helped create, nor a clue on how to fix it.

The only major messes they created were the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, and around $5 trillion in new debt. If you think they brought on the economic collapse you're dead wrong. It was in the cards for decades and would have happened with a Democrat in office.

They continue to say NO to anything that even might be a step in the right direction and offer no viable alternatives.

You're going to need more than talking points to debate me.

I think that they knew that this is going do be a long, slow, painful process to get the economy stable, and a lot of people are going to be pissed no matter who is in office.

You're damned right they are. And I'm quite content with the corrupt, self-serving pols in power - POTUS included - for taking every bit of the heat that they so sorely deserve.

Now, they can sit on the sidelines and naysay, point fingers, and stir crap, and turn up the rhetoric to hopefully gain power after necessary changes have been implemented that they were "against".

They could do that, or they could merely lie low and let the electorate do the bashing. Nice option to have, don'cha think?

What's important though is that the people scare the bejeezus out of the Republicans as well. Even better, toss EVERYONE out of Congress, amend the Constitution to place term limits, and then get the federal government working for the people again instead of the lobbyists.

(you're just yankin' our chains, aren't you). These messes are not inconsequential.

But I agree with you fully that this collapse was inevitable. After 30 years of living off of credit (deficit spending, St. Reagan's corpse should be shot), it was inevitable that the bill -- and its interest -- would rear its ugly head.

Fact is: America needs to pay up.

The question is...how? The CEOs are too greedy to invest their money back into America's infrastructure. The Republicans will block any new regulation of business that St. Reagan and his antecessors were so adept at dismantling. No one wants higher taxes, and quite frankly the middle and lower socioeconomic classes can't afford to pay them. Telling America to "tighten its belt" and won't help spur economy. And America's mindset is one of expansionism, not contraction. We'd need a complete ideological shift in order to convince Americans to conserve. Not likely.

Unless we, as Americans, can find some way to cooperate...or unless the leader after Mr. Obama is a dictator with the military force to enforce a police state at home...we're @!$%#ed.

I am still appalled that the GOP put this woman on the national stage as a candidate for VP.

Like it's the first time:

  • Spiro Agnew: ranting moron, criminally minded, overtly bigoted
  • Ronald Reagan: intellectually challenged, ignorant, incipient Alzheimer's
  • Dan Quayle: roaring idiot
  • George W. Bush: howling idiot, morbidly ignorant and proud of it

On the other hand, while you can disagree with their politics, you can't credibly challenge the intellect or the knowledge of any Democrat who has run for office going back at least as far as Kennedy/Johnson.

No you didn't, I'm suggesting that trying them would be a great place to start. Seeings our current President is only trying to keep us out of a depression to the likes of the 1930's depression.

Fact, the country is worse off with Odumbo and Goony Bird Biden then with Bush and Cheney.

That is not a fact, but keep on thinking it if it helps you refuse to support the President in office now. Anything to make it Obama's waterloo right?

Fact, the war was not illegal.

BS, the war that Bush and Cheney got us in to by lying is illegal, and should never had happened.

Fact, Palin will help the GOP with donations and putting our country back on the right fiscal track.

ROFLMAO! Good luck with that!

Freedom of speech means that you are allowed to say what you want about the government without fear of persecution . Free speech does not mean no one is allowed to argue with you. It also doesn't entitle you to stupidity or ignorance.

This is what happens when people learn the text of what their rights are but not the meaning nor the responsibilities.

I said thank goodness free speech was limited and people went ballistic. However, do I want to live in a world where someone can yell fire wherever they want? In a field? At a football stadium during a game? In a hospital waiting room? Well, not me and likely not you. There must be limits to preserve a greater good, ie people lives. That why if you stand on a corner and tell people to kill so and so because he's a bastard and you stand there and keep it up, and watch them with blood in their eyes, turn and point to a stack of bricks and say, take it and avenge the truth, yeah you can and will be arrested.

Sure you have a right to speak, but not one to incite a riot or murder as people's right to life overwhelms any right to speak. More importantly, you have a responsibility as a citizen of this country to not incite riots or murder. Not merely can you but should you. And the bill of rights, to those who don't know, limit what the GOVERNMENT can do to you. Not what you can do.

Amen! One of my main reasons in backing Obama is that he has consistently preached the power of personal responsibility when addressing any issue that we have as a nation. Once we as a people start to understand that the Government isn't solely responsible and that we, as citizens, have more of an impact on the direction of the country, we might finally be able to fix some of the problems we've been facing since the 1950's when responsibility went out the window.

    2. The Subtitle: An American Life. Aside from her infancy, Palin has really spent very little time outside of Alaska, and according to John McCain's campaign advisors, was shockingly unfamiliar with American geography and American history. "Alaska," as John McPhee noted in his resplendent Coming Into the Country, "is a foreign country...Its nature is its own."

I am in no way, shape, or form a Palin supporter, but I disagree with this being called a lie.

Alaska is part of the US, people in Alaska are as American as anybody else. I don't think that being "shockingly unfamiliar with American geography and American history" disqualifies one from being American; I know plenty of people from the lower 48 that have that problem.

I think, Charnello, that the argument is that they're using the world "American" to mean "universally American" or "generalizeable to all Americans."

In that sense, Palin's life is well outside the norm experience for most Americans and her experiences in Alaska do not really paint her as a "jane sixpack" which is, I think, the thrust of the title.

I agree with what you both wrote, but I still don't see it as a lie. She's as American as anybody who has never left their hometown in rural, lower-48 or Hawaii, or urban areas for that matter. So she represents those with poor knowledge of American history/geography; that's a large segment of America I'd wager.

Her claim to represent all the joe and jane 6 packs (and have them represent all of America), I find odd, but if she wants to claim 'em, good luck with that.

No one's claiming that Palin isn't an American, and no one's attacking your husband. Stop playing the victim. And I believe it is your crowd who continues to squeal about Obama's "citizenship."

What they're saying is that Palin is stunningly ignorant of the fundamentals of the country she wanted to help run. She is shaky at best on her geography and shockingly ignorant of the various groups and classes of people that make up the American demographic. She's even worse with other countries; I doubt she can find most countries on the map, and has little to no idea what our relations with most of them constitute.

But, we've seen for years that the Republicans celebrate ignorance as some sort of "real American" virtue. George Bush went to war with Iraq without understanding the difference between Sunni and Shi'ite or that schism's impact on the country and its relations with its neighbors. Even McCain, the supposed foreign policy expert, couldn't figure out which was which. It took a TV movie to make Ronald Reagan understand that nuclear weapons weren't fun boom-boom toys, but weapons that would have an appalling effect on their target populations. And Dan Quayle didn't know New Mexico was a state.

The only state as isolated as Alaska is Hawaii, isn't that ironic? Both are actually separate the continental 48.

Palin isn't UnAmerican but she is by no means typical. The fact that she is and was living in an isolated state where many times people can not get in or out due to weather considerations is what they are referring to.

Hawaii on the other hand rarely has a weather condition where they can not get in and out not to mention they get more international traffic from both east and west there.

As for knowledge of other states and american geography, there's no excuse for that. I can find the states on the map. Am I more knowledgeable about Florida history than Alaskan or Hawaii, yeah but ummm I was raised there. I am also more knowledgeable about south than north Florida, and of Miami Dade county than Broward.

However, if I was planning to run for office for Georgia, I would think that it would behoove me to learn about georgia, it's history, it's famous sites, and about the people who live there. Not just assume they are all exactly like me. This is not a homogeneous country.

    .

If I am planning to run for president/vice president then don't you think my time would be better spent learning about the diverse groups that make up this country rather than saying, anyone who isn't just like me isn't a real american.

When she said that... I turned her off, and never turned her back on again.

No but that's if you have good service.

Not every place does. I know of locations that if you don't have good service yer crap out of luck. Besides, and no one jump me for the age remark, was the internet around when she was in college and such? I lived on a college campus during a hurricane I had perfect service. I visit my brother out in north west georgia, it's crap!

Also it depends on how computer savvy palin is. My coworker livia, great lady, hates using the computer. My coworker marta, same age as livia, loves the computer.

Like so many books written by conservatives, its "bestseller" status is artificially inflated: conservative organizations and groups buy the book in bulk lots, quickly and deceitfully ramping up its sales figures. The standard is 100,000 for best-seller status, which can be done within days by right-wing funding outfits. Then they give the books away, sell them for discount prices, or pulp them.

I expect to see it on the shelves at Dollar Tree well before Easter. Maybe by Valentine's Day.

It's already on the table ::laughing::

Another tactic is to order masses of them, then 48 hrs before they ship, cancel the orders. The bookstores have already ordered them in based on the pre-sales and are now stuck with them. Best way to get them put on the discount table for 4.95.

I just object to the price gouging, no way am I going to pay five times what the book is worth! And that's giving it the benefit of the doubt. Mother replied, that I overestimated the book value by a 10 to the second.

The really telling thing about Palin's answer to Couric is that she couldn't or wouldn't even name a few prominent rags to try to bluff her way out of it. She either wasn't quick enough on her feet to come up with a couple or she was afraid of mentioning any big national mags or rags for fear of angering her "we don't need no stinkin' readin' " base.

    Hehe yeah ^_^

It would hardly be the first time I got collapsed for expressing an unpopular point of view. It actually says more about the "community" than it does about me. The possibility that Sarah Palin was complicit in tanking the election so that Obama could take the heat must be quite detestable to some, as is the possibility that the Dems' chronic bungling since Election Day could be a plus for the Pubs.

Or maybe I use too many of those nasty links!

Collapsing can backfire too. When I see a collapsed post it becomes more interesting and I'll usually open it up to see what was said.
