Beck and Limbaugh Call a United States Senator A Whore Because She Didn't Support the GOP's Healthcare Filibuster

advertisement

On their respective radio shows today Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh went on the attack against Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA) because she voted for advancing the healthcare debate forward in the Senate. Instead of criticizing her position on the bill, both Beck and Limbaugh took the lowest possible road by calling a female US senator a prostitute.

This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

The notion that Landrieu herself is benefitting from this deal is completely false.

In politics, power is as good as money. This pork will get her the former, and later, the latter. Mind you, I do not endorse their insensitive and demeaning rhetoric, they are stooges. However, they aren't elected officials like "K Street whore" Rep. Grayson.

It's a new game--guess the word accidentally omitted from the headline.

I'm betting it's "Senator."

Also, they didn't call her a whore (a reprehensible decision to say the least) because she voted for HCR, they did so because she extorted $300Mill for her vote.

Look big, nobody should ever employ such invective, primarily because it sets a bad example for the less intelligent/cultured. It only leads to more name calling and empty debate (see #'s 1.5 & 1.7) Also, while their words are unacceptable, they are shock jocks, nothing more. Grayson is an elected official. Although it is a futile endeavour, I hold them to a higher standard.

I hate to ruin a great seed with the facts but it turns out the request for the grant came from Bobby Jindahl, the Republican Governor of LA. So I guess if she's a whore he's the pimp. Don't believe me, listen to Andrea Mitchell go after Michael Steele, the chair of the RNC, when he brought it up during an interview this morning. But then what should I expect from a bunch of bullies and cowards. I am hoping that rather than cave in to the attacks that the bully boys will mount over the next few months, Senator Landrieu will pull on her big girl panties and stand firm with the party that hasn't called her a whore.

Well said Clint.

turns out the request for the grant came from Bobby Jindahl, the Republican Governor of LA.

How does that change the fact that she sold her vote on historically large legislation for cash? I don't care what the money is supposedly for, because we have seen in the last week how much money is diverted by the government from its intended recipients and LA is not known for it's lack of corruption.

Instead of calling Landrieu a whore they could have said easily bought and paid for. Would that be PC? We're talking Louisiana here, you know the land of Jefferson. If you or I give a Senator $100 for a vote we would be in jail. So it's okay for Reid give $300M to a Senator for a vote! The difference is Reid used tax dollars not his own.

Now there are two whores calling out another. Limbaugh and Beck are two media whores just scraping the bottom of the barrel for followers. They get the very worst of the worst and feeblest of minds to tune in daily, push their sponsor products and are total whores and then call out simply one senator as a whore. 96% of the senate are whores and the same goes in the House, so let's look at this in a shadow of reality. Bush's TARP plan failed because republicans voted against it until they could load it with special interest pork last July. Once it was loaded with their pay off money and pay back money, they came around and voted for it. They couldn't simply pass a bail out bill until it had a few billion in pork. These two morons are still in existence. It baffles me to try and understand why.

I can't say as I agree with the reference made by Rush and Beck, but it's still buying a vote. And I might ask, where did they get the 300 million to buy her off? From you and me and our own states. It's amazing how these people can just reach their hand into the tax pocket any time they want if they're democrat. Isn't bribery against the law in Washington? These people (all involved) need to be held accountable. The law says it's a crime punishable by fine and/or imprisonment for no less that 2 years. Someone needs to wake up and remind these people that we won't tollerate their white collar crimes.

How much has the Federal Gov't ( actually, you and me) given to NO? For starters:

125066 people have received a federal cash grant in the average amount of $63,966.00/each. ...

They should have 1 gotten out when they were told? And they rejected the federal gov't offers of help before the hurrican even got there.

http://sweetness-light.com/archive/la-turned-down-fed-help-before-katrina

Why is that our fault and now we have to pay an additional $300 million? Many of the people have gone - spread out all over the US, why spend money rebuilding in an area that is below sea level when it may happen again? Common sense, people.

Your justification for calling a Senator a "whore" is totally false. The program was not designed for her, but all areas that have had significant natural disasters and want to apply for the program. It may have been the inspiration of her after she explained the needs created by natural disasters, but it wasn't put in to buy her vote. It was put it because it's a good idea.

Conservatives don't care if it was a good idea though. All they want to do is accuse and resort to name calling. If no name calling, then maybe the "drinking the koolaid?" comment comes out without any reasoned argument to illustrate any point... just an attack. And then they act like a victim when one responds to such an insult, after the opposite side makes a reasoned argument for whatever bill it is they are discussing.

Conservatives have no respect for the democratic process.

If whore were an adequate and fair descriptor though, I would have no quarrel with it. I call a spade a spade. Just like Grayson did when he pointed out that Linda Robertson worked as a lobbyist for ENRON no less!

Conservatives have no sense of justice. They only complain when they're attacked, no matter if it was justified. Then they attack without justice and wonder why there's a negative reaction.

Typical.

Liberals are only good with free speech when it's them being able to speak their tiny view of the world. They only respect peaceful protests when it's them protesting (and we know their protests are usually violent in nature, and highly disrespectful as well).

Why should anyone be outraged at being told that Mary Landreau is a political whore for selling her vote and her supposed honor (what a joke) as a Senator? To be outraged at that would be like being outraged at being told the sun always rises in the east, or that the sky is blue. Of course it is, and of course Mary Landreau acted like a cheap whore who sold her vote for money after she told her constituents that she wouldn't support this Marxist health-care takeover. Anyone who is outraged over an evil politician being shown for what he/she is must be either a relative of said political scumbag, or just a fool.

Included in the deal, Landrieu secured as much as $300 million for Louisiana's Medicaid program, something she said Gov. Bobby Jindal asked for, leaving him in a sticky situation.

"It is the number one request of my governor, who is a Republican," Landrieu said Saturday on the Senate floor.

I hate to say it Lisa (lovely name by the way, my lovely and talented wife shares it), but I never bought anything that the Kenyan was selling. If he wasn't going to retire from Congress and take every other career politician with him, then Washington wasn't going to change near enough to suit me or any of my friends and neighbors. If you happened to see John Zeigler's documentary called "How Obama Got Elected" you will see the typical Obama voter reveal themselves in stark, raving detail. I try to avoid people with that kind of brain cramps; a person could get hurt around people like that.

Of course, Jindal wants more money for thier medicaid. They are still suffering from Katrina, thanks to the incompetence of the republicans and conservatives in charge at the time of the event.

And this is a good idea! Sure, it came up in discussions with a senator who was not sure how she'd vote yet, but it came up because of a legitimate reason, that being that natural disasters can set state budgets back a lot, sometimes too much, and it may require some assistance.

Thus the bill now adds in a provision to help ANY AND ALL states with serious natural disasters, as apportioned by the rules and regulations therein.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that this bill is not designed for Landrieu. It is designed to help assuage a problem that was brought to our attention THANKS to Landrieu.

So let's all thank Landrieu and Jindal both for enlightening us and move on, rather than acting like the typical childish conservative who hates to lose.

And gunguru... you should have paid more attention to policy.... one does not determine who they will vote for based on the excitement of their followers. Curious... do you feel the same way about Palin supporters? Most of whom can not even say why they like her when interviewed, but appear all starry-eyed anyway?

This is a statement after Beck broke down and cried out to the American People that opposed the Iraq war and called Bush out on it with this tearful plea, "Have you no shame?" "Have you no shame that you'd question this president that is protecting you from the enemy?" What a retarded drop-out. Luckily there are a lot of bottom dwelling, uneducated rednecks that are ignorant enough to support the likes of these two asses. Where else could two under-acheiving drunks and dope heads make millions off of propoganda that the uneducated sucks up like rabbit stew?

They are weak men to attack a woman in that manner. I know that is stating the obvious, but I'm really getting quite sick of the use of the terms whore and rape in political discussions. It makes me not want to listen, participate or respond because those terms don't really fit. It makes me think the person using those terms isn't capable of a decent debate.

Lisaed, you are aware that's how pretty much every bill makes it through Congress, right? Why do you think every major Defense project has components built in nearly every state? It's not because it's more efficient that way, it's because a Senator has votes and is tasked with doing things to benefit his or her constituents.

Seems to me then that singing out Ms Landrieu for doing her job is typical Alinskyite, marxist tactics to a tee.

just because you are convinced that the health care bill will fail or is horrible does not make it so. it may be horrible, but the devil is in the details, and the bill has yet to be finalized. if she felt that her state needed the funds, which i have heard were requested by bobby jindal, then i would say that she did the right thing for her state. i do not know if she has sold her constituents' health care down the river, as you say, and neither do you. it may be a fact, but at this point it would be next to impossible to prove. you can base your arguments on speculation and conjecture, but you will not win with those things as your weapons.

Oh good... then there are no presidential aspirations for Jindal then... because it's true.

However, it's a stupid reason not to consider a candidate. Public Policy is worked out in the democratic process, and in those discussions, sometimes good issues become exposed to the lawmakers, and they decide to do something about it.

Hence they decided to give more money to those who could demonstrate need for it due to mega-disasters and natural disasters in their state, which results in a temporary strain on the state to meet Medicaid demands.

It's common sense and it's a good idea.

And it isn't meant just for Louisianna or Landrieu or Jindal. It's meant for whatever state can demonstrate the need for it.

Thus the conservatives lose points on this woman not deserving their hyperbole. Plus they lose points just for looking like sore losers. Had anyone deserved such "figurative language", I'd support it from either side, and they wouldn't be sore losers. But it's obvious that they're ignoring the truth just so they can pretend to have justification for this... which is, of course, being sore losers.

No one called the tea baggers anything but crazy. But hell, everyone has an opinion.

Of course, we don't want to forget about all the racist, unfair posters or things said about our President, by those tea-baggers, now do we?

And as far as Grayson goes, at least she was a "K-Street Whore". Hyperbole is not meant to be taken literally, but figuratively, and since Linda Robertson was a LOBBYIST FOR ENRON.... ENRON!.... remember ENRON? his comment was very understandable, though slightly disturbing. But any woman who sold her soul to help ENRON rip off money from every granny they could find (remember how there were some ENRON lobbyists and traders caught on tape laughing about ripping off ol' granny), deserves to be called on it!

Now had he merely called her a "whore", Grayson would have been wrong, but by connecting the K-Street, he illustrates his point quite well to all, unless you don't know what K-Street is... and if that's the case, you don't deserve to be making comments here until you learn some basics on current events.

And yet he apologized for his hyperbole, though not his point (that she did not deserve to be calling him on any financial policy, when she was associated with Enron and when he was the only one of the two that actually worked in finance). Is Beck and Limbaugh now going to apologize?

Landrieu does NOT deserve to be called on this, as this is NOT a bribe. This is a response to a legitimate need. This amendment is not even for Landrieu. It is for ANY STATE that can demonstrate a need based on their state medicaid dollars being strained by a natural disaster!

And of course, this is the result of our democratic process. Anyone who can't understand that legitimate needs may arise to the enlightenment of others during the democratic process just isn't being truthful.

Besides, the amendment is common sense and a good idea. Get over it. She voted to start the health care debate for good reasons... after helping to enlighten us all on a pressing need that needed to be taken care of.

So stop acting like little children. Grayson is not a hypocrite. Landrieu is not a whore.

But Beck and Limbaugh are both sore losers. That's pretty obvious.

So was Rush. He used to sleep with men for money. Look it up. He was arrested for "pandering", which was code for picking up gay men, under his d.j. name of Jeff Christie in the 70s. How that slut has the nerve to act holier than thou today is beyond me.

Hmmm... how about you actually back up something that you claim?

And "pandering" isn't a "code," it's a legally-defined term that varies depending on the jurisdiction, but often is synonymous with being a middle man for the sale of sex, a.k.a. "pimping," and doesn't necessarily denote anything of a homosexual nature...

OMG! This is SO wrong on SO many levels.

First of all, could you have a more racist name than "Whitehood"? For that alone, you get demerits!

Secondly, you talk of her getting laid in college, lowering the bar for conversation pretty quick, don't you?

Thirdly, she did NOT vote according to the money promised her. She presented a legitimate need, as asked for by her Republican governor, Jindal, that explained how natural disasters had completely strained their Medicaid dollars. So as a result of the democratic process, which if you don't like you can go elsewhere, but as a result of the democratic process, we learned of this need to help states out after a mega-disaster.

It's common sense and a good idea. So she felt it was time to start debating the issue, knowing that she was being heard.

And if she did vote based on money promised, then what does that make the conservatives who voted for the Bush tax cuts? Remember? Remember those Bush tax cuts that gave HUGE tax cuts to the rich, paid for by BORROWING money from China, in a way that we middle class workers will be paying the interest off of for GENERATIONS! Not only that but it resulted in huge losses in programs for those who actually needed the money.

There are your true whores, gentlemen.... right in the conservative party. They vote to give money to the rich.... and make all of us hard-working commoners pay off the loan and the interest that was used to pay for it!

Upon reading the headline, I thought it was most likely hyperbolic language. I figured the 'whore' and 'prostitute' language was likely uttered by Beck and Limbaugh with the precursor of 'corporate' and thus was probably much ado about nothing.

After listening to the clips, especially Beck's, I was repulsed. Beck and his guest went on an abhorrent, weird rant. I'm wondering how those two know that much about prostitutes....

I was going to ask the same question about Limbaugh, but that one answers itself ;)

Anyone who has had the stomach to watch the State-run alphabet media over the last 30 years has learned plenty about prostitutes and whoring. The oral pleasures and hand-release jobs the lefty press has given the Donkey Party over the years and especially the current White House occupant have taught us all the meaning of "sex for money". Just look at all the payback coming in the Cap and Tax bill for NBC's and PMSNBC's parent company G.E.! $2,000,000,000,000 buys a lot of ass-licking and massage from the "thrill up my leg" crowd. Gunguru... you don't have faith in science? You say we can't trust anyone (paranoid much?), using Cap and Trade as evidence?

Okay.. let's examine the Cap and Trade experience we've already had.

In 1991, we had the Clean Air Act, a cap and trade policy. Republicans voted against it on a party line vote, claiming it would cost $25 BILLION each year. It ended up costing the $3 BILLION annually that we had estimated. It also saved us an estimated $122 Billion overall in not having to clean up lakes, or subtract the value of our forests, and for all the health savings as well!

So where did you get the $2 Gazillion dollar figure that you claim GE (just because they are the parent of MSNBC is obviously the only reason you're spreading this lie) will get out of Cap and Trade? Did you get it from the same place that past Republicans/Conservatives got that $25 Billion dollar estimate that turned out to be just $3 Billion? Out of your ass?

History teaches us not to listen to Repubicans/Conservatives about economics....

Interesting that you had to make stuff up to defend Limbaugh and Beck for their deplorable actions.....

In this case, you've proven that you're a sick pervert Guru. Please stay away from all children in the future, please?

And by being stupid enough to want to keep throwing your and our money away to the rip-off artists in private health insurance, and when all studies, and all results from other countries who have adopted public health care, we can know for a fact that we would save money with public health care, thus proving that it is you who are the loser, Guru... the loser of our money if we let you have your way... and also just plain "loser".

oh, yeah, like the census worker who was killed by some anti government right winger like some of you lefties claimed...uh, it was determined to be a suicide...next...

Or you could mean Nidal Hasan, who BTW, was on the transition team for the Homeland Security right from the front of the page - here's the info:

On May 19, 2009, The George Washington University Homeland Security Policy Institute (HSPI), an entity that "creates innovative strategies and solutions to current and future threats to the nation," published a report entitled "Thinking Anew - Security Priorities for the Next Administration - Proceedings Report of the HSPI Presidential Transition Task Force April 2008-January 2009" Listed in the report under the heading "Task Force Event Participants" is none other than alleged murderer, Nidal Hasan.

              http://www.examiner.com/x-27803-Trumbull-County-Conservative-Examiner~y2009m11d6-Killer-Hasan-was-Homeland-Security-advisor-on-Obama-transition-team

These mutts are giving nut cases all the justification they need to act.

Let's see...now, who are the "mutts" - would you call the people who influenced that radical Islamic jihadist, Hasan, a "mutt"? Please I want to see you write that his associates are mutts. While you are all worried and hysterical that a right winger might kill someone, look at the one who did kill 13 soldiers and injured dozens more? Get your facts straight and quit trying to stir the pot with the fear crap coming from the libbies on the left. There can be and are nuts on both sides.

Vol Fan... no one can account for other people's insanities, as far as Hasan. And btw.. he wasn't part of the Homeland Security Transition Team... he merely attended a seminar during it. That myth has already been debunked.

We can't be held accountable for other people's insanities either, so don't try that one, especially since the communication between the FBI and the Army was during Bush's watch.

Just like we can't be held accountable for insanity either, and seeing your rant... wow.

Face it... calling Landreiu a "whore" is unmerited, since all votes are based on what is percieved best for the constituency, and she merely did what all other politicians do.

Did you call Bush or your conservative buddies "whores" when they borrowed TRILLIONS of dollars to give away the Bush Tax Cuts to the RICH? And now, you, and me, and every other middle class/lower class citizen has to pay off that loan and its' interest, just so 6 million millionaires can have a tax break of over $50,000 (at a minimum)?

SO the true whores are the conservatives/republicans who voted for the Bush tax cuts.

The true whores are also the conservatives and republicans who are voting against health care so they can keep getting huge campaign contributions from the insurance industry.

As far as the rambling by Vol Fan... I think he forgot his meds... :(

He thinks it such a travesty that we were worried about right-wingers going on a killing spree, as evidenced by the Fort Hood shootings, apparently forgetting all about Scott Roeder and James W. vonn Brunn? Wow...what does that have to do with being respectful to a Senator and the democratic process anyway?

buzz. wrong. first off, that is off topic. then there is the fact that there is no consensus as to when a fetus is a person and whether or not that amounts to murder, but nice try. you can believe what you want, but that does not make it so or make it a law in our country. one could argue that by making war, then the right is justifying the killing. what is the difference between adults, children, babies , and unborn fetuses? are you discriminating by age? our side only murders adults, so we are more just than this side? is that your argument? i am not saying that it is, i am just asking.

In Louisiana Politics when you sell your vote for money is not to different than going to the red light district. I mean you get the same results, by using the meaningful words, as we all do when Congress and the Obama Administration say they are helping us. There is not to much difference here and you still get a favor but nothing physical.

Yeah... and its even worse when the GOP votes in HUGE tax cuts to the rich, which we middle class and lower class have to pay for. We're also paying the interest off of roughly 300 trillion dollars given away to millionaires.

But you conservatives got paid, right? That is where the true whores are.

And if you didn't get any benefit from this, and odds are that you didn't, then you're a fool to help them continue to rip us off. Everytime they give huge federal tax cuts to the rich, there is less money for the feds to send to the states in "block grants", and the states then have less money to send to the counties. But since both the state and the counties have to pay for teachers, police, firemen, roads, regulators, courts and prisons... they have to raise local taxes. As a result, you stupid republicans who aren't making more than $78,000/year (70% of America makes less) are NOT voting in your own best interests.... because you end up paying more in taxes than you save!

I don't remember anyone calling McConnell a "whore" when he voted for the Bush tax cuts. Bias?

By that definition, so are the conservatives who voted for the huge Bush tax cuts... whores all of them! And at our expense! He borrowed money to give to the rich (you didn't think Bush PAID for those tax cuts, did you?), which means the middle and lower-class are the ones that have to pay for it and the interest off of it.

How do you feel being such a despicable whore?

In contrast, Landrieu simply voted for debate, after she saw people were listening to the needs of her state, which has been strained by an abnormal growth in Medicaid needs due to a natural disaster. It isn't for Landrieu. It isn't even for Louisianna or the Republican Governor Jindal who asked her to seek help. It's for ALL states that can demonstrate a need based on local natural disasters.

Yet you think your hands are clean, even after the Bush tax cuts to the rich? After the party-line vote that dropped the Glass-Steigal Act? After the party-line vote on the all Republican sponsored bill that dropped the Glass-Steigal Act (Graham Leech Bliley Act)? The only reason any democrats voted for it after it was unstoppable in conference (due to a republican majority) was because the republicans said they would regulate the derivatives! And it was veto-proof! Since this is one of the biggest reasons for our current Bush Recession, all I can say is.... you GOP fools sure are whores!

Congress has been acting like whores and pimps for a long time.We need to clean house but it can't happen as long as they are willing to compromise their principles and sell votes for pork. They refuse to police themselves and we don't have the collective backbone so we may as well call them honorable, wash our mouths out with soap and demand the best pork they can sell their souls for.

You should have more respect for the democratic process. Just because they are discussing a bill, and while discussing it, they become enlightened to an issue that is important and then they respond to it, does not mean they are "whores".

If anyone is a "whore", it is anyone who voted for the Bush tax cuts, that we middle class and lower class are all paying for, both the loan and interest payments, for generations to come. The idiot Bush and his republican/conservative cronies borrowed money from China to GIVE to the RICH, and then make the rest of us pay for it...

THAT is where the real whores are... in the GOP.

No... I don't think so. You don't respect the democratic process, because then you would understand that there are legitimate times for earmarks and for politicians working together. Not in the case of the "bridge to nowhere" of course, but certainly an earmark for a health clinic where none are available is good for all.

Secondly, the republican/conservatives are consistently "whores" for PRIVATE gain in the way they vote. In general, not the dems. If republicans/conservatives were not the "whores" that they are, then they would have helped have Campaign Finance Reform by now. The Democrats are always FOR Campaign Finance Reform though... coincidence?

No.. no coincidence. Other than the exceptional criminal mastermind or personality disorder that gets into the democratic party, or republican who runs as a democrat since he lives in a democratic area, the democrats are consistently ready to vote in Campaign Finance Reform.

So how does that support your "assumption" that there are "whores" on both sides?

Actually, that statement is patently WRONG as are most of your points jimiracle. The latest poll I saw showed that the LARGEST political group in the country were CONSERVATIVE'S at 40%!!! In that same poll it showed that liberals only made up 21% of the population! And I can show other polls... so what... Besides, we all know that many past Republicans are refusing to identify as Republican after seeing how badly Bush and the Republican/Conservative ideology destroyed the world economy, lied us into war, and de-regulated everything. They do this simply by re-identifying themselves as Conservatives... so there is no real growth, just a change in name only. They're still the same "whores" they've always been for money via bills like tax cuts for the rich, medicare prescription plans that only benefit Big Pharma, and tax cuts for Big Oil.

SO... what you're REALLY saying is that there are a TON of WHORES out there who sold out for Bush Tax Cuts? It only benefitted the top 10%, so I'm guessing there are a lot of dumb WHORES in the conservative party then.

And I noticed you never countered the argument about who the REAL whores are...

Obama administration is made up of a bunch of felon tax cheats, Maoists, progressives, Marxists and radicals and sickos of all makes and models

O please... Bush W and Reagan had more felons than almost any administration in history! (more than twice what Clinton had).

"progressives"... wow, you got me on that one, O wise one. Obama does have a lot of "progressives". ROTFLMAO!

"sickos"... hmmm... better talk to Jeff Gannon about that one... or Dick "the shooter" Cheney, who wants to torture everyone despite the proof that it doesn't even work. Or how about the fact that Bush hired over a hundred "lawyers" that came from Pat Robertson's University to work in the justice department... like Monica Goodling, who thought her loyalties were to Bush and not the Constitution?

If I were you I would spend less time on here selling yourself for the Obama administration and more time in DC trying to explain to Barry & Co. that the majority of American's don't go for the type of sicko, nut-job,

Actually, polls indicate consistently that the public prefers a public option. Maybe you should spend less time running your perverted mouth off and actually do some research.

Commies that he's putting in powerful places!

You don't even know the difference between a socialist and communist, do you? LOL

Again, you're a pervert... and you're a whore, based on everything you've said. In contrast, Landrieu is a good public servant, who fought for the public gain, not the private gain. SO make sure to call Bohner a "whore" next time you see him, ok?

So how much of a "whore" does that make you, Bush, and the rest of the Conservative/Republicans who voted for the Bush tax cuts?

Again, she voted for public good... she's not a whore, she's a public servant.

...........and I am to pay for that TOO with taxes from wages I'm barely getting by on? Pfffftttttt!!!!!

Sounds like you could use some breaks on health care then. And if you want to lower costs for you in your lifetime, then vote for the public option. Every other country that has a public option spends half as much for better health care! It even cuts the deficit by $130 Billion in the first decade! By $650Billion every decade after that!

Otherwise, this country will go bankrupt, and then you'll really be scraping by each payday.... guaranteed (that is... IF you get a payday, since it will ruin jobs even worse than you guys did with the Bush Recession).

She did not sell a vote in FAVOR of the HEALTH-CARE BILL. She sold a vote to END FILIBUSTERS on the bill. She has STATED that she is AGAINST the bill. She is a whore, figuratively speaking, because she is allowing a bill she is against to come to a vote. And, in so doing is INCREASING the chance that a bill she is AGAINST will PASS.

She is not against health care! She is only not satisfied YET with the bill at hand! She voted to talk about it! COMMON SENSE, DUDE!

Maybe after their done talking about it, she will agree with the rest of the party, or maybe they'll agree a little more with her. But for anyone to call her a "whore" is proof that they are immature, perverse, and unpatriotic!

Have some respect for the democratic process! Why don't you want to talk about health care anyway, considering that premiums are rising 4x faster than inflation and is going to continue rising until even those perverts who call her a whore like you can 't afford it?! What are you afraid of?

40,000 people a year die for lack of health care... and you don't want to even talk about it? Who are you? SATAN?

                jimiracle,

A filibuster is an ENDLESS debate, where opponents of a bill will talk about the bill or about anything they can think of. However, in recent years, the Senate has put rules in place where they just set the bill aside until the votes needed for ending the filibuster can be garnered.

She SOLD her vote to end the filibuster on a bill she IS AGAINST. She can read it just as well as all the other members of the Senate. However, as Arlen Specter has stated usually their staff reads the bills instead. In any case, she is not doing the work her constituents sent her there to do. If she is against it, she should be standing along with all the others that oppose it.

And, if you want to know, I have made a proposal for scrapping the insurance system. I wrote my own Newsvine article about the health-care system and how to reform it, I think that was about a month ago. The current House and Senate bills actually do nothing more than allow a FEDERAL takeover of the health insurance SYSTEM. They do NOT do ANYTHING to reduce costs, remove the middleman, reduce fraud, or create a timely treatment system.

No.. sorry.. a filibuster is not a filibuser unless they're actually discussing the bill. Whoever described what was going on as a filibuster was incorrect. The Senate would simply have gone on to discussing other state matters if there wasn't enough votes to debate the issue. NOW, there can be such a thing as a filibuster, since they are debating it, to delay the vote for the final passage of the senate version of the bill.

                go back to school.

She SOLD her vote to end the filibuster on a bill she IS AGAINST. She can read it just as well as all the other members of the Senate

She did NOT "sell" her vote for a bill she is "against"... she only said she can't vote for it as it stands now..... in other words, she's open for ideas!

And she can read it, and has read it, but now wants to discuss it, search for meaningful amendments that may change her mind on the bill, etc.

Again, she is not "against" the bill.... she just says she won't vote for it AS IS. And she IS working for her constituents... to prove it.... her governor, REPUBLICAN JINDAL asked her to seek an amendment that would replenish their Medicaid coffers since Katrina wiped it out!

And, if you want to know, I have made a proposal for scrapping the insurance system.

As far as your "theory" on how to reform the system, by eliminating the insurance system AND even eliminating the feds as a single-payer system... well, that's just bizarre.... would love to see it for the laugh though! Please tell me... who makes the payments? If not an insurance company, and not the government... are we going back to paying for a doctor with 3 chickens and a pet goat!???

And just so you know.... Medicare is not a middle man, and a public option isn't either. They allow the doctor to do what's best, they just pay for it. That's not a "takeover".

If we had universal health care, we could really reduce fraud, since they would be salaried, but the current proposal reduces fraud just by providing competition... and if you knew anything about capitalism, that would be obvious. It's just that at the moment, we have insurance companies acting as a monopoly distorting the actual prices we should be paying.

And since the current proposals only create a "option", it's hardly the federal "takeover" you suggest, since other private insurance options would still exist.

Medicare has a prompt system, as it never has to deal with bean-counters who are trying to stop health care just so they won't have to spend the money like the insurance companies do. A public option would be the same, in that it isn't counting beans but simply testing for common medical practice to mitigate fraud.

That you would think you have the "answer", after seeing how much of this that you don't even understand .... well, let me just say it promises to be a total joke! I'm almost interested in seeing it for the laugh it will provide, but it pains me to think how much of a WASTE OF TIME it would be!

Why? Because you've proven that you don't even know what you're talking about. You've misunderstood the "filibuster", mischaracterized Landreiu's position, removed all hopes of having a large pool to mitigate prices or fraud, and reduced a public option as a federal take-over even though other insurance companies will still exist.

There is simply no reason to take you or your ideas seriously....

Yeah.. we have the Bush Recession to thank for that.... sometimes it is thanks to rain, but after you and your kind ruined the economy, sometimes it's just the economy, stupid!

Actually I think that distinction belongs to "the Banking Queen" and the Congressional Black Caucus who threatened banks if they did not lend to minorities who they knew could not pay for the houses they were getting. You know, like the woman who was online in Detroit recently waiting on magical "Obama Bucks"!

If you read any of my other posts, you'll see plenty of reason to "tell it like it is", but after seeing the truth laid out, you'll be changing your "telling it like it is" to be insults towards Beck and Rush.... plain and simple.

Palin is a "celebrity" who quit her public servant job to quickly (co)write and sell a book that provides a direct benefit to herself financially. The deal making that Landrieu engaged in (which I don't exactly condone) was for the benefit of the state of Louisiana. That is how politics has historically been played - with pork riders on bills to get votes. If we don't like politics as usual, then we should demand legislation to change it.

Yeah... what we really need is a 3 page bill like Bush and Paulson tried to push on Congress over the Bank Bail Out, right? You know... the one where they gave away billions, without regulation or restrictions, and without even writing down who got what, right?

Such incompetence is amazing... and you're worried about a bill that has just as many words as Sarah Palin's book, once it is reduced in font and size.

                    How ridiculous!

And motherknowsbest is right. Landrieu did not vote for personal gain... she voted for her constituency.... like any other politician. But "whores" like Palin screw the average guy for private gain. Whores like the Republicans/Conservatives vote for the Bush tax cuts for the rich for private gain, and the same when they vote against public health care, because they don't want to stop "whoring" for those campaign contributions. Who cares if it is the right thing to do... they just want money.

SO take your moralizing elsewhere... it's extremely defective.

Are you speaking to the bailout kings? George,

Our children and grandchildren??? WE ARE the grandchildren and children that our grandparents and parents worried about bearing the financial burden. Just like every generation before us, and every one that will follow us. Like anything has changed? Get serious. I'd rather see America go further into debt because we chose to help our own citizens with health care, than to see another dime go to any other sources. WE need to quit belly aching about the damn money. We spend billions on uninsured who go to emergency rooms and can't afford to pay. Insurance companies are denying more and more people who thought they were covered. These companies rake in 1/4 billion dollars every quarter. Of course they're going to sink money into scare campaigns, and tv commercials, in order to get people to think that government involvement in health care is risky business. The government is always involved even when we can't see it. I'm done making a handful of people rich. As we all suffer the consequences for what ever they decide they want to do. They hold hands with the big shots on Wall St. and the top politicians.

I'm willing to risk my tax dollars on the health care bill. I'm willing to give it a chance, and see what happens. 45 million AMERICANS need our help. If it were another country asking America for help, we'd find a way to help them. It's time we invested in each other, and help one another.

America: United we stand divided we fall. When are we going to start acting like it?

Unfortunately, the Chinese, who have largely been underwriting our spending spree, don't live in your Alice-in-Wonderland world, PhxAZMom. YOU may think that our $12 trillion of debt is no more consequential than the latest Hollywood release or yesterday's episode of The View, but those who live in the real world know otherwise.

And if all that your education in history taught you is that every generation is basically the same, I wouldn't boast about your alma mater since it's obvious that swindlers disguised as educators took you to the cleaners big time. (Maybe you can get something for your diploma on eBay, though. Just don't set a minimum bid.)

You say you're "willing to give it [the health care bill] a chance and see what happens"?

When you've got the power to undo the consequences of this travesty 10 years or 20 years down the road, when America's standard of living as a whole is on life support, you might be someone worth listening to. In the meantime, you're just one more grubby hand shoving itself in the taxpayer's face, saying, "More! Give me MORE!"

Neither my retirement nor my children's standard of living is the government's to take just so maudlin and empty-headed socialists like you can "see what happens." Not that long ago in America, scoundrels like you would have been run out of town on a rail. If I were you, I'd keep my eyes on the commodity futures for tar and feathers, and have a quick exit strategy ready.

                    george

why would your retirement suffer? how much money do you make (or did you make) anyway? if you are bringing in a few hundred thousand a year on retirement, then i do not think that you should be complaining. if you don't make that much, then it will not affect you, as the money is going to come from a tax on the wealthiest.

George... you talk of fiscal discipline, citing the $12 Trillion Debt, most of which came under your watch.... without mentioning the hundreds of trillions in the Bush Tax Break for the Rich? It wasn't paid for...unless you count pinning it on the backs of the middle class and their children.

Reverse the Bush Tax Cuts, and we'll have enough money for this AND much more.

But even more perverse in your thinking is that the Health Care Reform will cost us money, when in truth, it will save us money. CBO estimates that it will cut the deficit by 130 Billion the first decade, and then by 650 Billion every decade after that.

Continuing to use this broken down health system will bankrupt us. By creating a national "Coop", we'll save Trillions.

You say you're "willing to give it [the health care bill] a chance and see what happens"?

Yeah, except that we base our decision on intelligent research. We KNOW for a FACT that other countries that have done this have cut their health care costs astronomically. We KNOW for a FACT that every nation that has Public Health Care spends HALF as much as we do while serving the WHOLE population.

Basically, you're arguing that we should pay more for an inferior product. We aren't that stupid. And you will not intimidate us with lies.

We spend 17% of our GDP on health care, while they spend typically LESS than 10% GDP. If we were to do this, and lower our costs to just 10% GDP, do you realize how much we'd save? Let me make this simple....our GDP is about $14.5 Trillion dollars... and we take away 7% of $14.5 Trillion dollars, how much have we saved?

ONE TRILLION DOLLARS SAVED! (that's per year). It makes one wonder why the CBO estimate says we'll pay down the deficit only $650 Billion every decade after this gets started. I'm guessing they're being conservative, especially considering that we'll still have lots of people on your precious private health insurance scam.

So stop saying that this is going to cost us trillions, when it actually saves us trillions.

And make sure you call every one of those conservative/ republicans who vote against health care a "WHORE" for private insurance campaign donations! Don't forget now!

They didn't call her a whore because she voted for HCR, they did so because she extorted $300 million for her vote.

However, we should probably give her a break, since some of that money will go to the victims of the recent Hurricane Katrina, helping them rebuild right on top of the floodplain...

Why is it so hard for you guys to believe that a person can be on the fence, wondering if a bill is what's needed, when another amendment can help make it mean something more?

Is Stupek a "whore" to only vote for the House Bill because he'll gain favor with the Catholic Bishops? (who should lose their personal tax exemptions this year for dabbling in government).

Get real... and stop calling anyone a "whore" unless they're the ones that vote AGAINST health care... cuz we know they're only doing so for private insurance campaign donations....

Why would anyone vote against cutting the deficit for our nation by $130 Billion by 2020? UNLESS there was something private to gain?

She sold her vote to end filibusters on the Health-care bill in order to get money for her state. Sadly, she is looking at the short term benefits for herself and her state, and ignoring the long term detriments of the Health-care bill. She even has stated that she is AGAINST the bill, but voted to end the filibuster on it. Why allow a vote, when you are against it? Oh, wait, she got paid off.

WTF? Why start a new thread just to say the same damn fool things? You couldn't win the argument elsewhere, so you just try to sneak the last word in at the end for propaganda purposes? If you lose the argument elsewhere, don't just try to say the same things elsewhere... LOL... what a cretin.

So.. once again... YOU need to have some respect for the democratic process. If you're patriotic, you'll understand that work goes into solving problems for the American people. And since over 40,000 people die every year for lack of health care, you would have to be SATAN to not want to discuss it!

SO WHAT if she doesn't agree with it now; she may later - she may get what she believes is a good bill... and of course, she still wants to solve a common problem for our nation. Too bad you're not patriotic enough to want to solve this issue to help out fellow Americans! What are you going to do? Put your head in the sand and pretend it doesn't exist?

Instead, you seem to want us to continue as is... and thus, since health care premiums are rising at FOUR TIMES the rate of inflation, EVEN YOUR PRIVATE HEALTH CARE IS GOING TO BE TOO EXPENSIVE SOON.

And if you have Medicare, that also will continue to get too expensive, breaking the bank at the Fed. If you're a patriot, then you must help us save the budget!

SHOW me the facts that prove this reform is going to have "long term detriments". YOU HAVE NONE!

However, I can show PLENTY of proof that it can cut our deficit and provide health care to nearly all of us! We have the CBO estimate for one... an independent body of trained professionals. What do you have? The Lewin Group - created and funded by private health insurance monster United Health Care corporation? Yeah... that's trustworthy... NOT!

We KNOW, for a fact, that other countries that started Universal Health Care, etc, drastically cut their health care costs while improving results!

IF you were patriotic, then you would want our nation to have more healthy people too! AND you would want us to save tons of money while doing it!

But you just want to throw our money away with the current system, or with a meaningless reform that continues the waste of money, but why?

                          WHERE ARE YOUR FACTS?

Just yelling SOCIALISM is not a fact. It's just a sign of immaturity and the lack of being able to process a reasonable argument!

SO PUT UP OR SHUT UP!

And as you state above, also in favor of scrapping a single-payer through the government. How can you do both? Are we going back to paying what we can afford? 3 chickens and a pet goat? LOL....

Will we also go back to doctors providing surgeries to those who can't afford it, and simply paying it off by working in his garden for a few years too? Or are we going back to those days when doctors deny you service if you can't pay?

Where is the insurance that guarantees a form of payment even if you don't have the money? You make no sense, just like in the post I just responded to up above. (#17.13 - Wed Nov 25, 2009 8:14 PM EST)

So... when Dick Cheney and "W" lied us into a war that profited themselves and their buddies at Carlyle Group, KBR, Halliburton and Black Water... that makes them "whores" to?

And when McConnell voted against the first cap and trade program in 1990 (clean air act) saying it would cost 25billion a year as an attempt to gain favor with the utility companies (and then it only cost 3billion as predicted - and saved 122billion in environmental clean up and reduced health care costs), he was a "whore" to the utility companies?

When someone gets paid in the hundreds of millions of dollars to support a trillion dollar healthcare plan that was originally just a trillion dollars for healthcare with no plan, you are not a whore...you are a high class whore

You must be ignorant to say such a thing! Landreiu did NOT get "paid". She debated the proposal, saying it needed something to replenish state Medicaid dollars that were strained and drained due to natural disaster! The money isn't being paid to her! It's for her state, and ANY OTHER STATE that can demonstrate a need due to a natural disaster! And since republican governor Jindal asked her to do it, does that make him her pimp? ROTFLMAO!

She was bought.... Either way Americans get screwed....has any one a clue how the money is going to be used?

Wow... that just proves you don't know what you're talking about (not knowing how the money is to be used)... fyi, check out what I JUST said... it's to fill Medicaid coffers for special need states due to natural disasters! Do you really think you know what you're talking about?

What happened to the days when people said of Mary Landrieu......you consistently vote with the President and the Republican Congress.......while at the same time consistently stabbing your fellow Democrats in the backs .........

So what are you saying? That people always have to vote with the same block or "clique" in the halls of Washington? I guess that means there's something wrong with Liebermann then too, since he was always for the public option until it actually became a real possibility, then suddenly - he's against it while his state's biggest industry, private health insurers, jump on his back to "steal" his vote from the constituency for themselves. Hmmm.. i guess that's true.

So Liebermann is the "whore"... and so is every one of those conservatives/republicans who vote against a public option. It's obvious that they are, because everyone knows that the public option has cut medical costs in half in every other nation that has it while providing better service for more people.

For example, studies show that the citizens of Britain and Canada are much more healthy than Americans, and they do this with half as much money and the entire population! http://www.perrspectives.com/blog/archives/000404.htm

Still don't believe it? Just ask the WHO (World Health Organization) who was rated best in the world, and you'll find out France is the best bang for your buck, covering all their citizens at half the cost we do just 3/4 of our population! And we are listed as just #37! http://www.perrspectives.com/blog/archives/000654.htm

You think that Congress doesn't know this? They do... they're just lieing their pants off to fools like you. They're "whoreing" themselves out for those campaign contributions. So stop calling Landreiu a whore and start calling your conservative/republican buddies for the "whores" they really are!
