A 38-year-old former Miss Argentina, Solange Magnano, died over the weekend from complications resulting from cosmetic surgery, friends of the victim said Monday.
"This woman who had everything is dead because she wanted to have a slightly firmer ass," said Roberto Piazza, a fashion designer and close friend of Magnano, who frequently appeared as a runway model in his fashion shows.
I think when you start closing in on 40 it might be time to realize that there's but so much that medical science can do to make you look like you're still 18.
What an idiot this woman was. When are people going to realize that augmentation for superficial reasons is not worth the risk! If you are having a boob job because you had a double mastectomy, I can understand. If you are getting a boob job because you want the girls to sit about 2" higher I find ridiculous! Be proud of your "National Geographic" boobs and move on!
What price vanity? Surgery for purely cosmetic reasons is asinine. Too bad this story hasn't gotten greater exposure. It could maybe save a few lives if it made some individuals think twice before deciding to risk it.
Hmph..... I never quite made it to beauty queen material, but my 38 year old butt is plenty firm enough. Working out and eating right have a whole lot to do with it. :)
Cosmetic surgeries such as this seem to be a ridiculous waste of money to me. I think it is nice to be able to have access to it for things like extreme scarring or injury, and birth defects, but to risk your life just because your buns or boobs don't suit you is, obviously, not a smart thing to do.
My prayers go to her family, especially her children, who will miss their mama.
I'm with you-all. Reconstructive surgery is one thing, and I fully support it! I've seen people who have been in car wrecks that can't afford reconstructive surgery, and in those cases, they need help-- give it to them. Or surgery to repair a defect that takes away your life quality.
But surgery for vanity's sake is something else. I'm so sad for her family that she exercised poor judgment, and so sad that her life was cut short. I am even sadder that our society is glorifying youth to the point that a woman of experience has little value.
At least she died for a good cause. Screw people ripping on her for being vain. Look good or die trying.
Look good or die trying.
I'm sure she looked great in her coffin...
Damn straight.
Honestly though, life-threatening complications from plastic surgery are very low. It's not really a big risk. Anyone who thinks it's a good excuse to condemn plastic surgery had better not be someone who commutes to work, or have given birth to children.
I join with those that suggest that cosmetic surgery is better suited to "extreme" cases of physical irregularity, and not for more minor issues which are merely age related.
I read a book a long time ago "psycho-cybernetics" or some-such, which was written by a plastic surgeon. The short story is that people that get the surgery are often not "cured" of their self-image issues, and end up coming back for repeat surgeries which even the surgeons are left shaking their heads in response to.
Society - as manifested by the marketing industry - will neverallow the general public "the people" to feel good about themselves as there's just too much money to be made in special foods, exercise products, cosmetics, and surgery for them to allow that to happen, or even really support it.
For the morbidly obese, cancer survivors, accident victims, ane the like...THAT is where surgery can be possibly justified.
It is up to individuals of course, but I feel what I put forth is worthy of consideration at least.
The woman is dead; her time was up; something is to blame for it. Plastic surgery happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time, so it takes the heat. As simple as that. Let her soul rest in peace. Amen.
She'll lose some weight now, should just take a few days
