The Interior Department is offering oil and gas leases on 1.8 million acres of Alaska's National Petroleum Reserve while promising to protect critical migratory bird and caribou habitat.

Of course this and Obama's expansion of off shore drilling before the the Deepwater Horizon disaster will be ignored by Republicans who seek to paint the Democrats as a bunch of tree-hugging dirt worshipers with no concern for the energy realities faced by the average tax payer.

Democratic policies are fairly centrist under this administration but it's the message war that's casting them as radicals.
