Westchester County Republicans dropped their twice-chosen candidate, Jim Russell, as a challenger to Rep. Nita Lowey on Tuesday after the surfacing of a 2001 essay in which he embraces eugenics, cites anti-Semitic commentary and warns against interracial marriage.
The 16-page essay titled "The Western Contribution to World History" combines scholarly language with racist theories. It accuses Jews of stealing "Western" inventions, and - citing research on goslings and finches - warns against racial mingling.
The article ran in The Occidental Quarterly, a journal classified as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. It surfaced Monday on the Politico website.
