How much greater is $47 billion than $300 million? A lot, since that first figure is an order of magnitude larger than the second. But you wouldn't know it from listening to Senate Republicans debating the Buffett Rule.
Weighing in on the new proposed tax on the nation's highest earners, Jon Stewart notices that some of the same Republican senators who balked at proposed $300 million to fund Planned Parenthood's mammograms and birth control, on the grounds that that's too much money, think that the billions potentially raised through the Buffett Rule is chump change. So whatever one thinks of the efficacy of the rule, it doesn't seem like the senators debating it are being all that consistent in what they think a big number is.
